My question is, is the IEGD driver supposed to be able to be installed on a SUSE 11.0 or 11.1 linux system?

Regards,

MiKa

Hi mika:

Welcome to the Intel® Embedded Design Center Community.

To channel you to the best point of support for your question, can you please advise which Intel® processor and chipset hardware combination you are targeting?

In the meantime, you can find some information about Intel Embedded Graphics Drivers, including OS support at the following URL:

http://edc.intel.com/Software/Downloads/IEGD/ http://edc.intel.com/Software/Downloads/IEGD/ " target=_blank>http://edc.intel.com/Software/Downloads/IEGD/

Thanks,

Felix

Hi mika:

Thank you for providing that information.

Since you are using Intel Atom, I want to make you aware of a special place to go with your technical questions. The http://edc.intel.com/Community/ http://edc.intel.com/Community/" target="_blank">Intel e-Help desk is staffed by Intel representatives dedicated to answering embedded Intel® architecture product, design and development questions for select Intel processors, including Atom.

The Intel e-Help desk is only available to registered private users. Before you can access e-Help, you will first have to upgrade your community membership to private status. Private account status also allows you to access special documents and tools at the http://edc.intel.com/ http://edc.intel.com/" target="_blank">Intel® Embedded Design Center. Note that it usually takes a few days for the approval process, and it normally requires that your company has a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with Intel. If you are interested, http://edc.intel.com/My-Account.aspx http://edc.intel.com/My-Account.aspx" target=_blank>Click here to go to your 'My Account' page and request registered private access.

In the meantime, I see that you are using a Kontron board. Kontron is a premier member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance and has direct access to Intel technical resources. Have you asked your question to Kontron? (I know you have a software question and not about the board but Kontron has a lot of experience with Intel architecture and they may have an answer).

Thanks

Felix

Hi Mika -

I'd like to have you work directly with one of our Field Applications Engineers who's done a number of installations of the nanoETXexpress-SP with the IEGD driver. Please e-mail me your contact information so we can best support you.

Take a look at the IEGD page on EDC, on the CHipset and OS Compatibility tab. For the current release 10.1 you will see:

Moblin 2.0 Linux kernel 2.6.29-rc2, X server 1.6.0Fedora 10 kernel 2.6.27, X.org 1.5Fedora Core 7* (2.6.21 – 1.3194 and X.org 7.2)Wind River Linux* (kernel 2.6.21, X.org 7.2, X server 1.3)Red Hat Linux* Embedded (kernel 2.6.23, X.org 7.2, X server 1.3)

so the answer is that is not validated. If your distro has a similar kernel level and X-server revision to another supported distro, then you might be in luck and it might "just work". The biggest changes that affect IEGD are kernel changes around GART and DRM and the API to X-Server. There has been a LOT of changes recently around those areas in the Linux world so the best solution may be to use a listed supported distro for now.

For SLED/SLES 11 it is using kernel 2.6.27 and Xorg 1.5.2. iegd_mod.ko successfully compile but doesn't load due "drm_irq_install" unexported symbol.

And also it has only Xorg 1.5.3.
