Does the BIOS shipped with Mohon Peak CRB has support only for grub2 ? Not for legacy grub ?
Do you have a BIOS version that lets me use the serial debug port interface to do the boot menu selection with keyboard ?
We are having some issues upgrading the firmware for BIOS from the EFI menu. We get an "Error 280" that means that the address writes are protected. Would you know a way around the issue ?

Vishal, here is the response that was provided to me by TomT:
The Mohon Peak board has a serial console port available for debugging the system. This port is connected to an on-board USB to UART Bridge (Silicon Labs CP2105) and is available via the rear panel mini-USB connector. Drivers and documentation for the USB to UART bridge are available form the Silicon Labs website: http://www.silabs.com/products/interface/usbtouart/Pages/usb-to-uart-bridge.aspx http://www.silabs.com/products/interface/usbtouart/Pages/usb-to-uart-bridge.aspx. The default serial configuration for this port is 115,200 bps, no parity, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit.
Mohon Peak BIOS is based on EFI 2.3.1 and does have 32-bit support.

Hello Vishal
GRUB Legacy doesn't support UEFI. You can use GRUB 2, ELILO, there is also a GRUB Legacy version Fedora 17 that does support it, but it is not recommended to use GRUB Legacy since it is not maintained and incompatibilities might arise that won't be corrected or you might need to correct them by yourselves.
This link might be helpful in that regard: http://askubuntu.com/questions/313627/uefi-bootloader-alternative-to-grub boot - UEFI bootloader alternative to GRUB - Ask Ubuntu
Regarding your problem Updating the BIOS you it seem that the memory is write protected.
Please make sure that the jumpers are set as indicated in Table 3-2 of the Mohon Peak Customer Reference Board User's Guide
If that doesn't work you will need to program the BIOS using an SPI programmer. Please refer to Appendix B of the User's Guide.
It is always recommended that you make a back-up file of the current BIOS before you make any change.
I hope this is useful to you.
Best Regards,
Adolfo
