Can the Intel Itanium be used to play games?

The Itanium is a server CPU, although it could be used for gaming if a Windows session was virtualized on it. The difficulty is that it does a poor job of replicating x86 instructions, and despite being a very powerful CPU, Itanium cannot run Windows in emulation as well as a conventional Intel or AMD x86-64 chip.
Intel doubled down and decided to try to "raise the Itanic," but were thwarted when AMD announced x86-64, 64-bit enhancements to Intel's x86 architecture, in 2003. When the market accepted this, Intel had no choice but to follow suit.

Hello Preownedwatches,

Thank you for joining the Intel community.

Due to this product being discontinued, Intel Customer Service no longer supports inquiries for it, but perhaps fellow community members have the knowledge to jump in and help. You may also find the Discontinued Products website helpful to address your request. Thank you for understanding.

Unfortunately, the older Itanium processors are not designed to run x86 instructions, so any attempt to virtualize or run a Windows-based application is not supported.
