I210 MAC address

Dear Intel,

I have Intel I210 NICs on the board. I use eeupdate tool to update the MAC address, for example, 34AD61FB1500, the MAC address in BIOS shows all zeros. I found out that for all MAC addresses ending with 00, the BIOS will display all zeros.NIC lists with the correct MAC addressNIC lists with the correct MAC addressInvalid MAC addressesInvalid MAC addresses

I wonder if this is done on purpose by the controller and what is the reason and how to avoid it.

Tanks,

Ye

Thanks Sachin. Updated igb to 5.16.9,  and still shows the same behavior: MAC addresses ending with 00, the BIOS will display all 0s.

Hello Ye-Chen,

Greetings!!

Regarding the ongoing issue. Here are some recommended troubleshooting steps:

Check BIOS Settings: Please ensure that all options related to network interfaces or MAC address configuration are properly set in the BIOS.

Test with Different Hardware: If possible, test using a different network adapter or server to see if the problem persists.

Test with Different Network Port: If applicable, try using a different network port to determine if the issue is isolated to a specific port.

Inspect for Hardware Issues: Check for any potential hardware issues with the network interface or motherboard that could be affecting MAC address reporting.

Best Regards,

Vishal

Hi Vishal,

Thanks for the reply. We did test on other NIC cards (X710 ) and they work fine. So it seems like the issue is only related to I210. In addition, we have some I210 work fine, and we looked at the dump from eeupdate, we found out that the difference, can you explain on what the MAC addresses are different in the dump? In addition, what is specifically about MAC address offset 0x236 o (words 0x11b, 0x11c and 0x11d)?

Thanks,

Ye

Hi Ragulan,

We enabled OS2BMC flow:
./eeupdate64e /NIC=* /WW 0x11A 0x0003

I wonder if you can provide definition of OS 2 MC configuration structure of the Flash. In addition, we tried to overwrite 0x11B, 0x11C and 0x11D with the correct MAC address, eeupdate failed. Is there a way to overwrite the data?

Thanks,

Ye
