Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM (WinPE drivers)

Hi everyone,

We purchased a few DELL Optiplex 9020s that came with an Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM ethernet controller, and I've been unable to find the correct WinPE x64 drivers for this adapter.

From the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Ethernet+Components&ProductLine=Ethernet+Controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Ethernet+Connection+I217-LM&ProdId=3680&LineId=976&FamilyId=2280 Download Center I found what I thought were the correct drivers. In the EXE, I found some WinPE drivers, but apparently these aren't it as I'm not able to connect to my network when I boot up using WinPE.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the correct drivers please?

Thanks!

I began to follow Kamouille's instructions but found an easier solution:

Get a Windows 10 boot.wim

Use DISM to mount the image and add the latest Intel NIC drivers

Commit and Unmount

It recognized the Intel NIC drivers without any fuss. I created an account on here just to save the next guy some time - spent 4 hours on this issue.

I had the same problem but instead I was trying to install Intel i217 PRO Ethernet drivers on a custom computer I built with Windows Vista x86 installed. The drivers from the motherboard's manufacturer didn't work and kept giving me an error stating something on the lines of "No Intel devices were found" and would suddenly stop the installation. I figured I would try to install the drivers manually by right-clicking the questionable device in Device Manager, and updating the drivers. I would browse the computer for the drivers, but instead of finding the location I would choose "from a list of device drivers on my computer", and pick the Intel i210 Gigabit Ethernet drivers. The installation went successful. Afterwards, I updated to the ones from the motherboard's manufacturer by installing it over the Window's drivers. That installation went successful as well. Hope my advice helps.

thanks for the reply franknitty.

ya in the vista pe i was able to get i210 driver (not all of them work) to work. Using the same driver set when given to ghost server in creating its ghost winpe it wouldn't work, it wouldn't load, but the same driver set had no problem in windows vista 32 and vista 32-bit pe. Checked the winpe logs and it tried to load it and failed. Resulting in no ip address of course, and ipconfig would show nothing, i mean NOTHING, all you would get on the screen is "Windows IP Configuration". It took a while for me to find a compatible chipset that would work in windows vista/vistape as well as ghost winpe environment.

also i know in windows 7 and up, that if you give device manager new drivers, but the filenames are the same, it sometimes doesnt actually install the new driver set. i had to go in sometimes and uninstall driver and selected delete driver files as well. if i didnt do the actual delete drivers option it would say driver is installed. but i look at the data stamp of my .sys files and the new one didnt get installed.

Hello,

After trying Terry's method, I managed to get an IP on WinPE 2 (so vista). However, I couldn't have an IP from the DHCP server (it said that some files were missing).

I had no choice but switching to WinPE 3 or 4.

Since I didn't know which driver would work on them, I downloaded the latest CD from Intel (I believe this is the 20.0).

So instead of "drvload-ing" every drivers, I simply launched that exe included called "SetupBD.exe" (located on 20_CD\APPS\SETUP\SETUPBD\Win32".

It managed to automatically find the appropriate driver for the intel217-lm.

The funny part is that I owe two different computers with the intel 217-lm, so they would need a different driver in order to work!

Just FYI, here's the ones that worked :

- e1d6332

- e1d6232

Anyway, thanks Terry for pointing me out the CD solution, because I would have probably given up if I hadn't seen your message!

Worked for me Notsu. I was able to run a free util called DriverView from withing WinPE to find e1d6432.sys loaded.

I'm running SCCM 2012 R2 (WinPE 5) with a Dell Latitude E5450.

I had read a other posts pointing me at different drivers for this model of laptop none of which had worked.

The driver is downloadable from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/18713/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-7-?httpDown=https://downloadmirror.intel.com/18713/eng/PROWin32.exe Network Adapter Driver for Windows 7*

Extract it to %TEMP%

Open %TEMP%\RarSFX0\PRO1000\Win32\NDIS64

Thanks,

Michael

Hi

I am having a similar problem with a Dell 7250 laptop I218-LM

Message I get in MDT The following networking device did not have a driver installed PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15A2&SUBSYS_062D1028&REV03

The Dell drivers do not work and the intel drivers do not work any help with this would be great.

Tried adding the drivers manually using drvload but still not giving me an IP address.

Hi ArnoldRimmer,

Please try the recommendations below:

Instead of Panasonic, please check with Dell for the drivers.

Hi IT_Tech,

You may try the following:

1) Confirm with Panasonic support for the .inf and relevant files imported to the bootimage and WinPE version

2) Here is a third party website you may check regarding on checking which files are needed for the NIC,http://www.niallbrady.com/2011/08/31/missing-nic-driver-in-winpe-boot-image-no-problem/ http://www.niallbrady.com/2011/08/31/missing-nic-driver-in-winpe-boot-image-no-problem/

3) Try enable command prompt on the boot image and press F8 when running WinPE,check the logs or run other commands after the command prompt is bring up.

Refer to more detail at http://www.adamfowlerit.com/2013/10/08/troubleshooting-nic-drivers-in-winpe-for-sccm-2012/ http://www.adamfowlerit.com/2013/10/08/troubleshooting-nic-drivers-in-winpe-for-sccm-2012/

I had the same problem. Same model same error. You need this driver:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18713/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-7- Intel® Download Center

That should solve your problem. In particular you are looking for the driver under PRO1000>Winx64>NDIS64 called e1d64x64.

We are having similar issues. We have multiple new Dell Latitude E7250 & 7450s, both using the same driver - Intel I218 LM. We've tried various versions including the latest drivers from DELL and the latest drivers from Intel's download center. So far nothing has worked. The main issue is when trying to image a laptop with SCCM 2012 R2 & Winpe 5.0. It boots fine via PXE, starts loading the WinPe image and then falls over. I've looked at the SCCM log files and they point to an issue with the NIC driver. Doing an IPCONFIG from a command prompt returns nothing. Please help!

Did you use the specific driver I mentioned or did you dump the whole folder into your boot image? Some of the other drivers could possibly interfere with the boot image. I would start with a clean WinPE using what Dell provides, then add the driver I listed. Do you even get into the WinPE environment or does it fail before that?

Hi Phanguy, initially I just pointed to the entire folder, I've now isolated the relevant files and it's only importing the one driver i.e I217-LM v.12.12.80.19 That's been added to the Boot Image previously and made no difference.

It gets to this point OK (that's just a s/shot I got from the web)

But it then reboots just before it can load the Task Sequence. The error in SMSTS.log is:

Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001) TSPxe 18/04/2015 3:05:57 AM 716 (0x02CC)

PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005 TSPxe 18/04/2015 3:05:57 AM 716 (0x02CC)

It sounds like your issue has less to do with the driver and more to do with something else. Possibly the network itself, the WinPE image you have or possibly even the hardware. Have you confirmed this is the same problem on more than one 7250 or 7450? And you are still able to PXE boot other known working models? I'd also check BIOS settings.

You could be right, it may not be a driver issue. We've got this problem on all 7250 & 7450s we've tested. We stopped at 5. All other models (15+ Dell, Lenovo etc) are fine. It could be the BIOS, not 100% sure what as I can't really find anything in the BIOS that could possibly be causing it. The strange thing is, the machines all PXE boot. In the past when computers have failed to boot to SCCM, it's because there isn't a correct driver in the boot image and they won't PXE boot, period. However with the 7250s & 7450s they do PXE boot and start loading the WINPE image which means the NIC driver in the boot image is working, at least for a period of time.

Hello all,

This is a reply from awhile back with someone posting about having some computers with the Intel I217-LM Ethernet controller and got it to work with Windows Vista 32bit WinPE.

They downloaded the vista driver for I210 and extracted that with updating the e1r6032.inf file and updated the 2 sections:

[Intel.NTx86.6.0.1] section

%E153ANC.DeviceDesc% = E1533.6.0.1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&SUBSYS_1825103C

[Strings] section

E153ANC.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) I217-LM Gigabit Network Connection"

I did have some Dell 9020 boxes as well and this worked for me so thank you for the post on that.

Now, we also have some HP z240 tower workstations that use the Intel Ethernet Connection I219-LM controller and wanted to know if anyone has figured out how to set up the WinPE boot for this? I tried adding it to the elr6032.inf doc like I did for I217-LM but when running through the PXE configuration tool for Altiris(forgot to mention using Altiris 6.9 SP3 software) it doesn't see the drivers.

Here is my blog post on the workaround I had to implement to get an HP elitebook 840 and 850 to work with our WDS server.
