Hi,

I'm having problems installing e1000e-3.8.4 driver.

After downloading, extracting and going into to src/ to compile I'm getting the following in the end:
make[4]: *** [/usr/src/linux-headers-6.12.12-common/scripts/Makefile.build:234: /home/user/Downloads/ice-1.14.11/src/ice_main.o] Erro
r 1
make[3]: *** [/usr/src/linux-headers-6.12.12-common/Makefile:1962: /home/user/Downloads/ice-1.14.11/src] Error 2
make[2]: *** [/usr/src/linux-headers-6.12.12-common/Makefile:236: __sub-make] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-6.12.12-amd64'
make[1]: *** [Makefile:236: __sub-make] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-6.12.12-common'
make: *** [Makefile:172: all] Error 2
I'm guessing it has something to do with linux-headers?

My card is Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (Lewisville) (rev 04)

Kernel 6.12.12-amd64.

I've also tried an older driver ice-1.14.11 - but the error message is the same.

Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Taco

Hello techtaco,

Greetings from Intel Customer Support!

Thank you for reaching out with your query.

To assist you further, could you please provide the system details where the Intel® 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet PHY adapter is being used? Additionally, we would appreciate it if you could share a clear image of the adapter.

Looking forward to your response.

Hello Shankith,

Thank you for your reply. This is an internal NIC in a Dell XT3 i7-2nd gen 8GB laptop. Not quite sure what other information I can provide. As far as the "clear image of the adapter" - are you referring to the ethernet port photograph? Please clarify.

thank you,

Taco

Hello techtaco,

Thank you for confirming that this controller came with the system.

If you purchased an OEM-branded system or appliance, please contact your OEM (Dell) for a software driver version compatible with your specific firmware version.

Using software and firmware versions that have not been validated to work together may impact performance, feature availability, and system stability.

Please feel free to reply to this email. We're here to assist you every step of the way.

Hello Techtaco,

As the controller was originally shipped with a Dell system, we have advised you to contact the OEM (Dell) for further assistance. At this point, no additional support can be provided from our side. Hence, we will be closing this case.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any future questions. Feel free to start a new conversation, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Thanks and Regards,

Hello Shankith,

I cannot contact Dell as the system was purchased off-lease environment, therefore is not under warranty and hence, this is not a solution.

Do you ask everyone having problems with Intel hardware to contact their OEM? If you do not know how to solve this for a linux system you can admit it and I will move on with seeking support.

Please provide instructions or other versions of the driver to try.

thank you,

Taco.
