Hi Team,

We have Intel X710-DA4 NIC cards installed in our newly deployed Lenovo Thinkserver SD350. OS in the server is VMware ESXi 6.5

We are using other vendor SFP+ in the card but the card is not suppoting the SFP+. Link status is down and no led.

But the same SFP+ is working fine in Intel X520 NIC card in the same model server. X710 have driver i40e.

Please help to fix this issue.

Hi Circlesoccer,

Thank you for posting in Wired Communities. When using X710-DA4, it is recommended

to use validated SFP+ modules supported by X710-DA4 which can be found at https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000007045/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Hope this clarified.

Thanks,

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for the update.

Our SFP+ is not mentioned in the list. Buy my concern is the same SFP+ is working with Intel X520 Dual Port 10GbE SFP+ OCP Mezz, which has driver ixgbe. Our SFP+ is not mentioned in the compatibility list of X520 series, but still it's working fine.

Below are the supplier part numbers we want to use.

1) FTLX8571D3BNL-J1

2) FTLX8571D3BCL-J1

Does this problem related to card driver?

Kindly suggest.

Thanks!

Hi Circlesoccer,

Thank you for the information. I am sorry that your SFP+ is not on our validated list. If the part is not on the list, it is not recommended as mentioned "You cannot use other brands of SFP+ (10 Gbps) modules with these adapters".

What is the part number on your X520 network adapter? You may locate it at the white sticker on the physical NIC, see website below for the format and location.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000007022/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Would like to identify if your X520 is an OEM part. Thank you.

Regards,

Sharon

Hi Circlesoccer,

Thank you for the information. Your X520 is found to be an OEM Lenovo part thus there is the possibility it can use other brand and model of fiber modules.

With regards to VMware driver for X710-DA4, please visit Vmware support site for the driver and contact them if you have inquiries regarding their driver:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005693/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html Intel® Ethernet Adapters Compatibility with VMware*

For X710-DA4, it is recommended to use the validated fiber module still.

Hope the above information clarified.
