Dear All,

As we are migrating from Intel 82574IT to I210IT because of obsolescence. Could you please let us know the software impact. or any compatibility of Software.

Thanks and Regards,

John Wesley

Hi Johnwesley,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Could you please explain further what you mean by software impact? Is it Windows compatibility? In term of Firmware? NVM drivers?

You may also refer to the current release notes of the OS compatibility and drivers for the Intel Ethernet below.

Feel free to let us know if you have questions or clarifications.

We look forward to your reply.

We will follow up after 3 business days in case we don't hear from you.

Dear Irwan,

Sorry for confusing the question. As we have developed a HW based on IMX processor with Intel 82574IT based PCIE to ethernet controller. Since it got obsolete we are planning to modify our design based on I210IT. So we already have firmware and drivers implemented based on Intel 82574IT. So as we update the HW design based on I210IT, what is the software impact and is there any guide to migrate firmware and drivers from Intel 82574IT to I210IT.

Thanks and Regards,

John Wesley

Hi Johnwesley,

The firmware, drivers and OS compatibility should have no impact due to similarity of both hardware ethernet adapter.

Dear Irwan,

Thank you for your response.

As we have firmware and driver code available for 82574IT. DO you mean the same firmware and driver code we can use, if we change the chip from 82574IT to  I210IT ?

Thanks and Regards,

John Wesley

Per the following website (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000055236/ethernet-products/gigabit-ethernet-controllers-up-to-2-5gbe.html

Driver version

I210

- LInux - IGB

- Windows - E1R

82574

- Linux E1000e

- Windows - E1Q

That being said, the I210 is a next generation product derived from the 82574.  Therefore, any applications that were written to support the 82574 architecture will port to the I210 architecture.  However, you will need to change to the correct driver for the I210.  You may also see if you can get a hold of the "The Intel® Ethernet Controllers 82574/82583 to I210/I211 Design Guide"  (and NDA document, found here?  http://www.intel.com/cd/edesign/library/asmo-na/eng/475120.htm).

Hi Johnwesley,

In addition to what Carl_W_Intel just said, We don't have anything specific to migrating from one part to the other.

The driver is probably the same since they are both 1G parts. You will also need to check the differences in pin assignments, but the parts have the same footprint.

We have reference schematics, design checklists, NVM files and the datasheet – all up on RDC. You will need privileged access to RDC to get all but the datasheet.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hello,

We just heard from our supplier that the Intel I210 will be EOL.

As a replacement they offer the Intel® 82574L.

When i read the above, then it seems to us, that we go back in time?

Is that correct? And if the Intel I210 is going to be obs, what will be the next new one.

So that we know how and when to modify the software.

Best regards,

According to ark.intel.com (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/64402/intel-ethernet-controller-i210it/specifications.html?wapkw=i210-it) the I210 will not announce EOL until First half of 2035, so there is still at least 10 years of availability for the I210 until then.

I would reach out to your supplier and have them download the latest Intel Ethernet Product Lifecycle Guidance Document from RDC.INTEL.COM (doc number 499897) which will give updated guidance on all Ethernet silicon lifecycles.

The 82574L/82574IT announced EOL in January of 2020.
