Support of one-step DM of PTP in I210 NIC

Hi All,

How can we check whether I210 NIC cards support one-step DM in PTP.

I checked using Ethtool in Linux machine.

Command used : Ethtool -T <interface name>

It didn't mentioned about one-step ptp support

Do we have any other way to check ?

Is it necessary to load any specific for PTP to work in Linux if we are using I210 NIC.

abcd@root1234:~$ ethtool -T ens4
Time stamping parameters for ens4:
Capabilities:
hardware-transmit
software-transmit
hardware-receive
software-receive
software-system-clock
hardware-raw-clock
PTP Hardware Clock: 0
Hardware Transmit Timestamp Modes:
off
on
Hardware Receive Filter Modes:
none

Hi Sai Kiran Chaganti,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

Can you share following information for us to further check your request?

-OS version and Build

-System model

-Model of Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I210

Note: For Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM) version of Ethernet adapters, we'd like to set your expectation that we have a limited support it would be best if you can also get in touch with OEM company.

You may check article below which states "HW Timestamp is supported on e1r devices (I210, I211 and I350) for Windows"

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000089268/ethernet-products/gigabit-ethernet-adapters-up-to-2-5gbe.html

Looking forward to your reply.

We will follow up after 3 business days in case we don't hear from you.

Hi Sai Kiran Chaganti,

Thank you for the information,

I may need your help to elaborate or clarify the meaning of "One-step DM or PTP support" as it may seem something unusual.

Used the article for your refence:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/6/html/deployment_guide/s1-using_ptp

We would like to know if you’ve been able to try our suggestion above.

In case you did, we would highly appreciate if you would let us know the outcome of these.

We will be waiting for your response.

Hi @B_Y

My doubt is does intel I210-t1 support hardware time stamping or not.

As I could not find it working with one-step delay mechanism in PTP,(One-step DM works if I210 supports hardware time stamping).

As I verified two step delay mechanism working for I210-t1 which uses software time stamping.

Please clarify on hardware time stamping support on i210-T1 in Linux.

Hi Sai Kiran Chaganti,

We got 2 articles for your reference in relate to i210, and IEEE15888

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/faqs/ieee1588-faq.pdf

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/content-details/334026/intel-ethernet-controller-i210-i211-faq.html?wapkw=334026

There is also some discussion from another platform:

https://github.com/AVnu/OpenAvnu/issues/623

Please have a look and let us know if it helps. Otherwise, you can share with us at which stage of script that need further assistance, so we can check with our internal engineer.
