1. H/W Information
The NIC information installed on the SuperMicro 740GP-TNRT is as below.

1) Onboard : Dual LAN with Intel® X550 10GBase-T Ethernet Controller
2) PCI Slot
- 4x 10GbE RJ45, PCI-E x8, Intel XL710 (AOC-STG-i4T)
- 4x 10GbE RJ45, PCI-E x8, Intel XL710 (AOC-STG-i4T)

2. OS Information

- Ubuntu LTS 20.04 (18 version also has same issue.)

3. error issue

- When installing Ubuntu OS in this environment, the network continuously occurs Rx drop.

4. Verification method

1) Same issue reoccurred in same environment: device connection between Server and Switch (Server<->Switch) --> The drop occur in ‘Bond’ configuration with 2x 4Port 10Gb NIC, and drop occur also in eno1 which is Onboard.
: This issue occur in all Intel NIC.

: It also occur in single network port, therefore we can’t determine as a bonding configuration error.

: Carried out both MTU modification and autoneg alternation test.

- Continuous ‘Rx drop’ occur when connecting same server (supermicro 740GP-TNRT) eno1(Onboard)<-> Cisco 2960(Temporary switch for verification test)

2) The above ‘Drop’ issue doesn’t occur in verification test between existing server (DELL R740 : CGR81D3) eno1(Onboard) <-> Switch(NETGEAR XS728T)

3) The above ‘Drop’ issue doesn’t occur in verification between Existing Server(DELL R740 : CGR81D3) eno1(Onboard) <-> Switch Cisco 2960(Temporary switch for verification test)

** The ‘Rx drop’ occurs only on SuperMicro servers, when we do the verification test in all same network environments(where the only difference is in a server node)

4) ‘Rx drops’ do not occur in the same H/W environment in Redhat 7.x and CentOS 7.x except Ubuntu.

5) Reference information

Operating system: Ubuntu 20.04

libero11_1-1651545977825.png

ethtool -l eno1

This only occurs between the intel NIC and Ubuntu (the symptoms are the same in 18.x).
Please suggest a solution to solve this issue.

For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.

  1. What is the OS installed on this system before?
  2. Can you provide the link of the driver used?
  3. Aside from installing Redhat 7.x and CentOS 7.x, what are the other troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.
