Hello, When I was trying to update an X710 (8086:1572) adapter from 9.40 to 9.54 it failed for no update available.
Which was strange as I have updated many of these adapters.
I was able to flash by modifying the nvmupdate.cfg file:
I noticed that the following EEPID, 8000FBA0, was listed in the nvmupdate.cfg file:
;OO
BEGIN DEVICE
DEVICENAME: XL710
VENDOR: 8086
DEVICE: 1572
PBA: H79864

OROM IMAGE: BootIMG.FLB

OROM update : No config file entry
CIVD : 1.3800.0
PXE : 1.1.45, checksum Valid
EFI : 5.0.20, checksum None
However the PBA number listed did not match, H79864 vs M61874-002.
Doing a little research I tracked the H79864 back to being released in 2016.
The M61874-002 was listed as being released back in 2024 which is fairly new.
It seems that this PBA didn't make it into the 9.54 nvmupdate.cfg release.
I was able to update the nvmupdate.cfg by changing the PBA from H79864 to M61874-002.
Then I was successfully able to flash.
I just wanted someone from Intel to verify that this was okay or if there was some other procedure that needed to be done to flash the adapter.
I did some testing with the adapter and didn't see any issues.
Thanks,
Jason

Hello Jamendola,
Greetings!
Thank you for sharing your experience while attempting to update the Intel® X710 adapter (Device ID: 8086:1572) from firmware version 9.40 to 9.54.
To help us further investigate and validate the workaround, we kindly request the following information:
1) Exact adapter details (model number, SKU, etc.)
2) Network driver version currently in use on the system where the issue occurred
3) Kindly collect and share the Intel SSU (System Support Utility) logs from both the system where the update failed and the one where updates have previously succeeded.
4) Clear image of the adapter showing all markings and labels
5) Was the adapter came with the system or purchased separately?

Pujeeth,
Unfortunately the software on the server has already been reinstalled.
I work for a manufacturing plant that has the server go through a test/staging process.
The staging process is where the software gets reinstalled that will ship to a customer.
The test process using a special image for testing only.
The adapter was flashed while the server was on the test software so the logs are not available.
In fact the system is going to ship to the customer tomorrow.
Here is some photos that I took from the adapter:
These adapters were purchased separately and installed in servers.
Here is the driver information that is currently being used for the adapter:
ccat3-2-11:~ # ethtool -i eth4
driver: i40e
version: 2.17.15
firmware-version: 9.54 0x8000fba0 1.3800.0
expansion-rom-version:
bus-info: 0000:31:00.0
supports-statistics: yes
supports-test: yes
supports-eeprom-access: yes
supports-register-dump: yes
supports-priv-flags: yes
I attached the ccat3-2-10.txt file from the ssu.sh script.
Thanks,
Jason
