Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.
For us to further check the issue, please provide the following details.
- Are you using a PCIe X710 or onboard/embedded network card?
- What is the brand and model of your board/system?

Hi Michael,
The card is an Intel X710 PCIe add-on card
Its installed in an Oracle X6-2 server w/two Intel Xeon Processor E5 V4 Series
I upgraded the NVM firmware to version 8.7.0 without issue.
I was able to upgrade i40e to 2.17.15 when the system was running Oracle Linux 7.9
i40e upgrade, running Oracle Linux 8.3 and 8.5, build failed error indicated missing or incompatible kernel-devel packages
Installed new kernel-devel packages.
I tried i40e versions 2.17.15 to 2.20.12 with the same result
I hope this provides a clearer picture.
Thanks,
John
