Serial protocol with fast link restoration - use SerialLite II?

We have an application where we need to transmit data over Cat 6 cable in one direction. We are just pushing bits through, and don't need anything complex. Sometimes the connection is physically broken for long periods (on purpose, and we don't have control over it), and we want to be able to resume the transmission in the shortest amount of time possible after reconnection.

I looked though the SerialLite II spec, and I see on page 33 that a simplex connection can transition to a link up state after 64 valid characters. Is this our best bet among the many transceiver protocols available?
