Anyone tested Java-based Android apps on x86 devices for better performance?

Hey everyone

Just curious if anyone here has experimented with running Java-based Android apps on x86 hardware and compared the performance to typical ARM setups?

I’ve been testing a few lightweight Java apps that emulate PC-style environments on Android devices, and I’m noticing that CPU load distribution behaves totally differently between Intel-based tablets and ARM phones.

Has anyone done a deep dive into how x86 handles these workloads? Especially when you’re trying to run more demanding stuff like open-source PC apps or even Java-based games on Android?

Would love to hear if Intel chips actually handle these types of runtime conversions more efficiently — or if it just depends on the specific app optimization.

Hi @AmberGH,

Thank you for posting here in our community. You're absolutely right about performance varying on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific applications you're planning to run. As you correctly noted, the actual performance gains heavily depend on how well each specific app is optimized for the platform, the generation of Intel chip you're using, and the particular workload characteristics of your applications. ARM devices still maintain advantages in power efficiency and app compatibility, but for your use case of running demanding Java-based games and open-source PC apps on Android, Intel x86 tablets should provide the better experience. I'd recommend testing your specific applications on both architectures if possible, as real-world performance can vary significantly based on the individual app's optimization and resource requirements.

Let me know if you need more information.
