Does TikTok editing or streaming impact CPU/GPU performance during gaming?

I’ve seen a lot of gamers recording gameplay and then editing or even live-streaming short clips directly to TikTok. I’m wondering how much of an impact this kind of workflow has on overall system performance.

For example, if you’re running a game that’s already heavy on the GPU/CPU, does recording + exporting short clips for TikTok noticeably affect frame rates? Or is it mostly negligible if you’re on newer Intel processors with integrated graphics support?

I’m curious if anyone here has tried multitasking like this and what your setup looks like. Do you dedicate resources to recording/streaming, or do you just let the CPU handle everything?

Hi evelyngrace,

Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry about the impact of TikTok editing and streaming on CPU/GPU performance during gaming. I understand your curiosity about how multitasking with recording and exporting clips might affect overall system performance, and I'm here to assist you in exploring this topic.

The impact on performance can vary depending on several factors, including the specifications of your system and the demands of the game you're running. To better understand your setup and provide more tailored advice, could you please share some additional information?

System Information: If you're comfortable doing so, you can use the Intel System Support Utility (SSU) to gather detailed system information. Alternatively, please provide the following details:

  • CPU Model
  • GPU Model
  • RAM Size
  • System Model (Laptop or Desktop)

For faster communication and assistance, I am available for a phone call. Please let me know a convenient time for you, and I'll ensure we connect promptly to discuss your inquiry further.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, and I am committed to providing you with the information you need. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for your detailed response and for offering to help further. Here are the details of my setup:

  • CPU Model: Intel® Core™ i5-11400H

  • GPU Model: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

  • RAM Size: 8 GB DDR4

  • System Type: Laptop (Acer Nitro 5)

The main reason I asked is that I’ve started recording and editing short gaming clips for TikTok, and sometimes even experimenting with live streaming while playing. I’ve noticed that when the game is heavy on the system, multitasking with TikTok, can cause small frame drops or a bit of stutter, especially if I try exporting clips in the background. That’s why I wanted to know if dedicating more resources to the GPU instead of letting the CPU handle everything would help maintain smoother gameplay.

I’d also prefer to continue the discussion here on the forum instead of a phone call, so others with the same question can benefit as well.

Hi evelyngrace,

Thank you for providing the details of your setup. It's great to hear that you're exploring recording and editing gaming clips for TikTok, and I understand your concern about maintaining smooth gameplay while multitasking.

To better assist you, could you please share the specific game titles you are playing while recording or streaming for TikTok? Knowing the games can help us understand the demands on your system.

Additionally, I recommend monitoring your memory resources while multitasking. This can provide insights into whether RAM usage is contributing to the frame drops or stutter. You can use Task Manager to observe memory usage and see if upgrading RAM might be beneficial.

I appreciate your preference to continue the discussion here on the forum, as it can be helpful for others with similar questions. Your proactive approach to optimizing your setup is commendable, and I'm here to support you in finding the best solution.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.
