HIgh Core at .02 utilization

I have a z590-e motherboard with a very powerful CPU (I9-11900k).  My problem is this, there is really only 1 game I play which is World of Warship which is high in CPU usage (I don't think so).  My power plan is set to high.  My clock speeds are at 4.9 and even 5.1 Mhz and my temp is running around 48c.  Is there anyway to lower the clock speeds so I'm not using so much power which will lower my temps when the utilization is only 1.3%?

I figure this is idle which the clock speeds should be around 800Mhz.

Thanks

Hello Timlab55,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.

We always recommend using the processor at stock configurations with the default BIOS settings. Keep in mind that everything related to the BIOS updates, settings, and features is supported by the manufacturer of the board. So, in order to make sure the BIOS settings are set to defaults, and to verify that the latest BIOS version is currently installed, please, get in contact directly with ASUS support so they can further assist you on this matter.

Also, in order to rule out a possible hardware problem with the processor, please install and run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool, it does an overall test on the unit and if it passes the test it means the unit is working properly.

  • Download the Intel PDT (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool)
  • Once installed, the Intel® PDT starts testing the processor using the default configuration. Two windows might appear to show the test is in progress.
  • When the Intel® PDT completes, the testing status will display either a PASS or FAIL.
  • Alternatively, you can open or save the test results file every time after the test run by clicking on file > view results file, file, then, save as to any location you specify.

The program you recommended came back as PASS.  That's great!  I'm happy but also sad because I don't need for my system to be hot all the time for no reason, not to mention the elect. that it's costing me.  I did contact ASUS and they only had things on OC, but I don't want OC, but to have slower clock speeds.

Hello Timlab55,

Thanks for your reply.

Based on the processor specifications, the T-junction of the Intel® Core™ i9-11900K Processor is 100°C. Any temperature results below or equal to that value are considered normal and expected for this unit.

Remember that as mentioned before, we recommend using the unit using the default settings, since altering clock frequency or voltage may void any product warranties and reduce the stability, security, performance, and life of the processor and other components.

Best regards,
