Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded my build to an Intel Core i7-14700K along with an RTX 4080. I was expecting a massive jump in FPS, but I’m still noticing stuttering in some games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Apex Legends. Temps are around 70 to 75°C under load.
Could this be a bottleneck issue, or do I need to tweak BIOS settings such as XMP or power limits?
Would love to hear from anyone who has the same CPU and what settings worked best for them.

Hi JamesNuttall,
Thank you for posting in our Community and for sharing the details of your setup. Going with a 14700K and an RTX 4080 should definitely put you in high-end territory, so the stuttering you’re seeing is worth digging into. A few things that could help narrow it down:
-
What resolution and refresh rate are you gaming at, and do the FPS drops happen consistently or only in certain scenarios (crowded areas, big fights, or just random)?
-
Are you running the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your motherboard? Sometimes microcode and power delivery tweaks make a real difference.
-
Do you have XMP enabled so your RAM is running at its rated speed, or is it currently at default speeds?
-
How’s your system resource usage when the stutters happen? Does Task Manager show anything maxing out (CPU cores, RAM, disk, etc.)?
-
Have you noticed whether this happens in just a couple of titles (like Cyberpunk and Apex) or across most of your game library?
Additionally, could you please provide CapFrameX data for this game(Cyberpunk 2077 and Apex Legends)? This will allow me to analyze performance metrics in more detail and identify any potential issues. Ideally, please share a CapFrameX file that includes at least 2-5 minutes of gameplay. I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue.
These bits of info can help figure out whether we’re looking at a CPU/GPU balance thing, a memory config, or something in the software/driver stack.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
