A750 freezes after logging in Windows 10 with April driver update

I purchased Arc A750 for my Dell Inspiron 5675 in Feb 2023. The platform was fairly old: Ryzen 7 1700X on X370 chipset, with only PCIe 3.0 x8 lanes, and without ReBAR support, but my A750 was running okay, though with bugs and occasional crashes in games.

Problem started with the April driver. After logging in to Windows 10, the system was responsive for a few seconds until the three "Intel Arc control" prompts jumps out, which locks everything. Ctrl + Alt + Del could not call up the task manager. If I stayed at the log screen, the system would also freeze after a minute or so.

Luckily I created a restoration point and rolled back to the March 15th (4255) driver and waited for the next update.

However, similar problems showed up again with the recent May 15th update. This time the system would stay responsive for a little bit longer. But soon after the several "Intel Arc Control" prompts jumped out in the notification area, the system would freeze again. The mouse cursor is still movable, but no change would happen when it hovers over buttons, or could you click on any button with it. (I have always conducted "clean installation" during updates).

So I rolled back again to the 4255 driver. I notice that this time the Arc Control software does not work properly. I can only see the main window, but no tabs or buttons within it works. (For the same reason, I could not generate the Arc control report required in the template)..

I do appreciate all the improvements Intel engineers has brought by. But the recent updates has rendered Arc A750 almost unusable for basic daily tasks. Perhaps the ReBAR support was the issue, but that means A750 would not makes sense as an upgrade option, which I believe is the reason for quite a big portion of Arc users.

Hello soldier_svejk,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We would be more than glad to help you with your issue.

About the freezing issues, we would like to let you know that we are currently investigating this matter, but we can't promise any outcome or fix since we focus primarily on Arc GPUs functionality when paired with supported platforms (Intel 10th gen or newer or AMD's 500 Series motherboard with Smart Access Memory enabled paired with 3000 series Processors or newer) as noted here.

Regarding the issue with the Intel® Arc Control, we recommend you the following:

  • Uninstall Intel® Arc™ Control following the steps below:
    • Press the Windows key.
    • Click settings.
    • Select Apps and then select Apps & Features.
    • Search the list for Intel® Arc™ Control software and click it.
    • Select Uninstall.
  • Reinstall Intel® Arc™ Control. See How to Install Intel® Arc Control for instructions.

We would like to know if you have any other questions about this problem. Since this matter requires more effort on our end, we are planning on closing this thread to avoid duplication of efforts.

Best regards
