Hey guys,
I've recently upgraded to Windows 8 on my Zenbook Prime UX31A and micro HDMI port is not working at all. Basically, when I plugin microhdmi to HDMI cable to the port nothing happens. Neither laptop or TV detect a new screen. I've been reading online that this might be an issue with the driver.
I've tried multiple drivers from both ASUS and Intel's website and it's still a no go. Current drivers that I'm using on it are:
Version V9.17.10.2828Description Intel Graphics Driver
File Size 157,12 (MBytes) 2012.10.19 update
Can you please help?
Thanks,
Dragan S.

Just wanted to share that my issue was solved by simply getting another cable. I had bought a cheap ass micro hdmi->hdmi cable from dealextreme.com which didn't work with my UX31A Touch, tried everything; upgraded the BIOS, upgraded the drivers from INtel. Nothing worked; it's like the cale was not there; nothing to be seenon the laptop and the screens remained black. (tested on three different screens).
Today I went to the shop & got me a cable that set me back €36,- (it's called a 'high speed HDMI cable') and things worked instantly. Plugged it in and everything is now working flawlessly.
Just my 2 cents. don't trust your $8,- cables....

Update: I've booted Ubuntu livecd from USB stick and I'm able to see Samsung Electronics 40" in Displays option (which is my TV) but I'm not able to see any picture on TV etc. so this suggests issue with drivers for both problems I suppose as the cable and port are working since the TV is detected.
Any suggestions?

Hi Dragan Stamatovic,
Can you provide the following information for me:
-What was the latest version of the ASUS graphics driver you installed?
-What was the latest version of the generic Intel® graphics driver you installed?
-Are you running Win8 32 or 64 bit?
-Are there any adapters being used on the microHDMI cable connection between the laptop and TV?
-What version of motherboard BIOS are you using?
Thank you,
-Nic

Hi Nic,
Thanks for getting back to me! You can find required information below:
- It was Version V9.17.10.2828 of Intel Graphics drivers from ASUS website (currently using them)
- I believe they were these: Version: 15.28.8.64.2875
- 64bit version
- No adapters, laptop is connected to the TV via microHDMI to HDMI cable directly.
- BIOS version is latest from ASUS website - 212
Please let me know if you need anything else

Hi Dragon
Do you have the latest BIOS from http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=UX31A&p=3&s=369 ASUS, version 2.12 ?
I also have a UX31A and it is currently connected to 2 external displays, a VGA connection to a HP Touch display and a HDMI connection to a ASUS 228 display. I also tested a couple of other HDMI displays and they worked fine.
One thing I did notice however is that the micro HDMI connector on the UX31A seems to be very sensitive to movement. If I move it even slightly, I loose the HDMI display,, move it again, and the HDMI display comes back. I replaced the cable with a different brand and so far no issues. Double check your cable connection.

Hi Robert,
Yes, I have the latest 2.12 BIOS version as stated earlier This isn't an issue with flaky port as if I disable and enable intel drivers laptop can "see" TV in graphic settings but can't stream anything to it and TV doesn't detect laptop either. It only shows in the settings. Same with Ubuntu. I've also tried juggling cable to see if it will detect anything and it didn't help.
Do you have Windows 8 as well? I haven't tested this with Windows 7 as I didn't have the micro HDMI to HDMI cable then, but this definitely doesn't work on Windows 8
Thanks,
Dragan S.

Yes,, Windows 8 64. Also the system v\came with Windows 7 64 and that worked fine as well. I am running 3 displays with no issues. Are all your other drivers and apps current with what ASUS has posted on their support site?

Yep, what driver exactly do you use for your graphic card? ASUS live update doesn't show any drivers outdated and neither is Windows Update suggesting anything to be updated
Here's a screenshot of Ubuntu where you can see it can "see" the TV but it can't switch display to it:

Hi Robert and Dragan,
I have exactly the same issue. UX31A with Windows 8 Pro and today I bought a quality 1.4 Micro HDMI to HDMI cable for my Asus ML228H, but I just can't make it work.
What is strange though is that with 9.17.10.2875 drivers from Intel website I get the picture on the monitor when connected, BUT only while in BIOS or during Windows 8 loading screen - which means that cable is fine and port is working. As soon as it loads to login screen of W8, monitor shows 'No HDMI signal' and then turns off.
This is another huge issue I'm facing with this Zenbook Prime I still can't find the solution for.
Please help and thanks in advance,
Filip

Thanks, hope the club will get closed soon
Also, what I've realized is when i switch to 'extend' in W8 even if it's not working, the mouse movement performance gets bad. I don't know, maybe it could help Intel engineers in diagnosing the issue.

I am in the exact same boat.
Multiple micro -hdmi cables. Unable to connect to tv with Windows 8.
I am using driver v9.17.10.2828 Which I believe is the latest one on the ASUS website.
There is something there saying to uninstall the driver BEFORE installing windows 8 and then reinstalling the new driver. I didn't do that.
Any ideas?

Hey, Robert U....
Did you uninstall the driver BEFORE installing windows 8 and then install the new driver?
I'm wondering if that's the problem. Very frustrating.,.. One of the main reasons I bought this thing was to use it attached to my TV!

@ ipassgas When the system was out of box with the ASUS build of Windows 7, I did a straight driver update , no uninstall. I also followed up with an un-install and update. No issues.
With Windows 8, it was installed on a formatted hard drive, clean install. I then did updates with un-install and without. No issues.

What does "installed on a formatted driver, clean install" mean? Is there an easy process to do this? If so, I'll revert to factory settings (windows 7) and update all drivers. I'll then do this "intalled on formated driver clean install" if you can give me some guidance as to how to do this and I'll see if that solves the problem. Did you do the updates manually or with the update assistant?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Although I had the hdmi output working once at work on a samsung monitor. But at home I have tried to connect it to 3 other monitors and they all did not work.
My ux31A came with windows 8 pro out of the box and I have the latest drivers installed.

@Roel - So with the system out of box with the ASUS build of Win 8 Pro on it,, 3 displays did not work? Or was it after updating the drivers? Also, what HDMI cable and or adapters are you using?
