After Windows 10 Upgrade: Display driver stopped responding and has recovered: Display driver Intel HD graphics drivers for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Computer is Dell M3800 w i7 & Intel 4600, 16GRAM, 256SSD.

Computer also has nVIDIA driver that can be selectively used. I rarely use it - default is the 4600 card.

I use Dell 3000 USB docking station that uses DisplayLink for multiple monitor support. I get the error whether I'm docked or not.

No problems in Windows 7

Upgraded to Windows 10.

*** Problem: System 'freezes' then I get a notification that the display driver has stopped and then recovered. *** This happens randomly with a frequency about every hour or so.

Upgraded driver through Dell Website (along with BIOS and other drivers). Problem still exists.

Upgraded driver through Device Manager. Problem still exists.

Downloaded latest drivers from Intel website. Uninstalled the previously installed driver. Installed the Intel driver. Install warns that the driver is older than the existing drivers. I installed anyway. Problem still exists.

Upgraded driver through Device Manager. Problem still exists.

Please tell me you have a solution to this. I've looked at other forum entries for this and haven't seen a definitive solution. I'm about to revert back to Windows 7.

Thanks!

Couldn't agree more. The thing which I am not able to understand is that Intel's driver are manufactured by Intel, Windows by MS, no chinese crap here, so why are these two tech giants not able to resolve this issue which is affecting users worldwide? If they can't tackle this problem, then God save us when Skynet goes outta control.

I downloaded Windows Update Mini Tool. After enabling Download updates-notification only in it, on the Windows Update settings page a line in red color is written which says Some settings are managed by your organization. There was a Windows Defender update and Windows update notification prompted me to enable it to update it, which means that this software works and auto updates were not there.

Now I installed 4463 using the method posted in my last few replies. I select automatically run Winsat while installation

http://oi67.tinypic.com/25oxxlk.jpg http://oi67.tinypic.com/25oxxlk.jpg Is that ok?

Anyways 4463 installed http://oi66.tinypic.com/9zykjt.jpg http://oi66.tinypic.com/9zykjt.jpg

After few minutes it is downgraded, before downgrading the screen turns black for 1 or 2 seconds and voila it is downgraded http://oi64.tinypic.com/1ou2ae.jpg http://oi64.tinypic.com/1ou2ae.jpg

When I try to update this driver by selecting the unzipped folder of the installer file of 4463 I get this http://oi67.tinypic.com/52f492.jpg http://oi67.tinypic.com/52f492.jpg Yes THE BEST It doesn't say that the driver is up to date or something, but THE BEST. Any heads up?

Driver 4463 is the production version from Intel, for some reason Windows Update is pushing a different driver version. You may need to disable Windows Updates or check with Microsoft* about this matter.

Allan.

Seriously? contact with Microsoft will be about as effective as congress is. Their engineers offer useless suggestions but avoid any responsibility. They suggest downgrading OS or verifying the current drivers. They also point to Intel as the problem and have suggested the exact same thing, contact Intel. This is something Intel and Microsoft including the PC manufacturers NEED to work out and stop pointing to the other guy.

Hi tsac,

Allan may not be far off the mark. Since this a Windows Update, matter, Microsoft offers Free Support involving Updates.

Click on Contact Answer Desk.

"Windows Update is downloading and installing an older version of Intel Graphics that is causing my computer and after I upgrade the drivers to fix the problem, Windows Update, downgrades the drivers."

The problem is Microsoft is treating all computers the same and they are not.

Not far off from what Intel does, in packaging all drivers together for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. The operating systems are completely different. Including between Builds of Windows 10.

You guys need to check my last post again, windows update were notification only with that software. It means that if there was any update I would have got a notification whether to download it or not. I did not get any. So, the guilty one here is Harassement-Packard because the system downgrades the drivers and not MS. When I tried to update the downgraded driver by selecting the unzipped folder of the installer file of 4463 I got this error http://oi67.tinypic.com/52f492.jpg http://oi67.tinypic.com/52f492.jpg It does not say that the driver is up to date or something, but it says that THE BEST one is installed. Who decides which is the best version, not Intel, not MS but this crappy company which goes by the name of Harassement-Packard. Their customer support team is still telling me that we need to restore windows. Is there any fix to stop OEM's from doing this?

Hi becool773,

Is your computer under a warranty from HP?

If not, and you only have the operating system on Drive C:\, why not Reset your PC? On my computers, the only thing on the operating system's partition, is Favorites, but backed up to a Network-attached Storage Hard Drive, using Firefox and Waterfox, which allows this.

Ok , I tried Microsoft again and unfortunately they again pointed to driver manufacturers like Intel not properly testing their releases.

I will wait a few days and try again in hopes of getting a different Microsoft support person.

I also asked about the Intel Duel Band Wireless AC-7260 which drops the router constantly. They said that is another Intel issue and not theirs. When I asked why is the common link to all these issues Microsoft win 10 and the updates. They said it was also because the company's are not testing before release. Ok , so is Microsoft giving them the updates BEFORE release? Reply, It is their responsibility to check our releases and insure compatibility.

I think I see the circle growing.

I also was able to update my m3800 finally to these drivers which i haven't been able up till this point. I have just been dealing with the issue with the turning off 3d settings. I had to download the x64 zip (left side - bottom). Then MANUALLY update the driver from the device manager and intel 4600 hd graphics driver.

Thanks for reply SteckDEV. I also tried all of those Intel driver updates, both automatically and manually via the zip file. No matter what I tried, I ended up getting a message "this driver is up to date" (OR) "this driver is not compatible". Intel seems to think that ASUS has something imbedded into my system that won't allow me to update the driver for some reason. Intel claims that is quite common with some pc manufacturers. So after hearing that I went back to ASUS with that knowledge and they suggested getting the updated driver for their own ASUS website. I did that too and it seemed to update the driver (the driver version was newer and the date was more recent). I thought that took care of it because I could not get the error to come up when I opened 3-4 Google Maps, etc. at the same time trying to make it come up and....TADAAA....no error. But alas...the very next day (and still to this day) I get the errors. Only difference is, it doesn't seem to be quite as often, but they're still there and very annoying.
