Add me to the list of people who get a black screen....
HP G60t-200CTO
Windows 7 64 bit.
I uninstalled the previous intel driver (8.15.10.1986) and installed 8.15.10.2086.. and got a black screan... grrr... Other older intel drivers have worked just fine so I don't agree that it's a special vendor bios issue.

Robert_U from Intel last posted on 4/26/10 saying it was being worked on.. I'm doubt they can give a date it will be fixed. I'm glad this is being taken seriously now. I also hope Intel has more than just Robert_U looking into this. Please keep sending in more info.

Motherboard - Intel DH57JG Mini ITX
Processor - Intel i3-530
RAM - 2x1GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz Dual-Channel
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Blue 500Gb
Optical Drive - Lite-On IHOS104-37 Blu-Ray Reader
OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Display - Samsung 32" 1080p LCD TV via HDMI 1.3
I am still running on the basic VGA drivers that come installed on the motherboard as I haven't found an Intel HD Graphics driver that works yet.
Because of this I don't know how to produce the system report (when i right click on the desktop there is no "Graphics Properties" option.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.

A modified version of the 15.17.1.2104 driver has been posted that may, and I stress may resolve this issue on Intel® HD Graphics, Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family and Intel® G4x Express Chipsets. Please feel free to try the driver from the links below and report back on your results.

2104 is the one that Microsoft pushed via Automatic Updates as well and it's a no go
Again, I don't have a black screen - I have a frozen Microsoft Windows Logo, when my laptop keeps booting into windows. The laptop itself is not hung, but the video is.

No luck with Acer 5740-5780 Robert. However, I understand this driver only fixes 1400/1600 resolutions, not 1366 768.

Just a quick note,, we are continuing to investigate this issue however, it is difficult to root cause as we have not been able to replicate the issue on the systems we have available for debug. We are continuing to try and replicate this issues as we locate additional systems.

Thank you for trying to solve the issue, but the part about unable to duplicate it puzzles me... You work for Intel, so either buy an Acer 5740-6491 (about $600) or ask Acer to supply you with one for a month. I'm sure they would be more than glad to oblige, given that this bug affects most/all of their current laptops and it seems a few others.
I tried 2086/2104/2119/2125 drivers, all with the same result, being that when you install it first, you get a black screen with blinking cursor and when you reboot you get the windows logo even after it actually entered Desktop screen. If during either of those moments you RDC to the computer, Windows7 thinks that everything is working just fine (no errors anywhere). I tried connecting HDMI to my 1920x1080 TV and switching to external monitor, but nothing came up.

INTEL -
I AGREE WITH ABOVE. I DON'T QUITE UNDERSTAND WHY YOU CAN'T REPLICATE THIS ISSUE. IT INVOLVES MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS OF COMPUTERS. YOU SUPPLY THE INTEL CHIP TO A LOT OF MANUFACTURES, THEREFORE, IT APPEARS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. MICROSOFT IS ALSO AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I HAVE TALKED TO THEM SINCE THEY PROVIDED THIS UPATE AS AN OPTIONAL UPDATE. THEY ARE ALSO WAITING FOR YOU BECAUSE THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND I'M SURE ARE SORRY THEY RELEASED YOUR UPDATE AS AN OPTIONAL UPDATE BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING THE SAME QUESTIONS. HOWEVER, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT SINCE IT IS YOUR UPDATE AND NOT A MICROSOFT UPDATE.
THANKS VERY MUCH!

Same issue. Computer was working fine until I installed the .2104 update.
Here's the config:
Sony VGN SR290
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400
3 GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional (32 bit)
Intel 4 Series Express
If I load up in Windows 7 Safe Mode and disable the graphics accelerators (there are two? And I have only onboard graphics!) and then restart to normal boot up, I can load a regular session of windows with no graphics acceleration (also my CPU gets ridiculously hot then).
Please find a fix asap. This is a major problem.

Also,
My resolution is 1280x800 and I can't even use System Restore. I have 4 restore points before this update was installed and they're all suddenly corrupt. Basically I have to run my computer with the display adapter disabled now, and that's the only way I can even boot up. This is a major, major issue and I hope you'll are working on an update.

I may have found a fix. This is what I did to get it working again:
1) Boot up in safe mode and disable all display adapters.
2) Restart computer to normal windows startup.
3) Download the original video drivers for your model from your manufacturers website (in my case it was the Sony Vaio video drivers from October of last year)
4) Install the original video drivers
5) Restart into safe mode again, disable one of the display adapters
6) Restart into normal mode again, and download version 2021 of the Intel driver (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18944&ProdId=2991&lang=eng http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18944&ProdId=2991&lang=eng)
7) Install the drivers and restart normally
😎 Enjoy beautiful Aero and not burning up your cpu!

Your method did not work. The system was restored after the restart, but in Device Manager version of the video driver is updated to 2021. The CPU is also hot!

Robert_U,
Can Intel make a extended info gathering tool that we can run to help gather more info? I'm sure many of us out here would be more than happy to run some stuff to gather any info that might help. We REALLY would like a fix.

I refused the integrated graphics on my laptop, because the CPU temperature rises to 10 degrees! Maybe someone knows the reason? If you use ATI HD 4300 CPU temperature, on average - 48 degrees Celsius, and the use of Intel, the temperature rises to 60 degrees! This may be the cause of the driver?

Same problem here with a brand new acer aspire 5740-6491 (windows 7 x64 - core i5 430m). Updating to the newest drivers result in a black screen with a blinking cursor at the moment of installing the drivers, and computer will freeze after loading windows.
I was able to roll back to the original drivers that came with the computer (an older version) in safe mode.

softoys - the reason that your processor temperature rises when using onboard graphics is because the processor is doing a lot more work as opposed to when the additional graphics card is in use.
Has anyone looked at their Windows Event Log when after they have had a black screen after installing the drivers? After I installed the drivers and subsequently removed them after my PC crashed I investigated the Event Log and googled for the latest critical event IDs. This lead me to a few forums in which I eventually manage dto find a fix that worked with my system.
The fix that worked for me was to disable all the C State options in my BIOS settings. I'm not sure why this worked, maybe a conflict with the power management software and the graphics driver.
