Brightness/screen jumping

When I recently updates my dell XPS 15 9550 driver the screen has been acting very annoying recently. The screen is randomly jumping in brightness and dimming. Its very hard to explain its almost like flashing but the brightness changes and its not a smooth transition it just randomly goes straight to a different brightness. I have adaptive brightness off and when I go to change the brightness it is where I left it. Its like the screen is having dimming issues but somehow stays at the brightness I set it to. Maybe the contrast is changing or something but this has gotten absolutely unbearable it happens 5 times at least in a minute constantly changing brightness or contrast or blinking its hard to describe. There is no physical damage I treat this thing like gold. The drivers will not update either. I have tried to update drivers that say they need to be updated many times and when I check to see if they updated the same driver updates show up like nothing ever happened. These I have tried to update at least 5 times and every time I rescan and check the same updates show up (dells website) yes I do restart my device after every install

This is from an intel scan and the same problem happened where I try to install it and restart and when I rescan the same update shows up like nothing happened.

Here are my Driver details

Yes I have tried updating my graphics card too and it is up to date but I do not think that is the problem since this error started occurring after the intel 530 update

Please help! this annoyance is becoming unbearable!

I have a related problem. When I open my laptop with hd 5500 brightness goes to 100% after a few seconds.I think that an Windows 10 update did this because I using the same driver(latest beta driver) for 2 month and I didn't had this problem. This started to happen a week ago or 4-5 days ago can't tell exactly.

Make sure to uninstall any graphics driver through windows Control Panel. Install Intel(R) Graphics Driver and then the Nvidia* driver.

Let me know the outcome.

I tried to uninstall my drivers and when it said uninstall successful now would you like to restart your computer, I did notice a difference in the screen size and color etc etc so it was actively disabled or uninstalled so I thought. When I clicked yes to restart everything was back to normal when my computer booted up again. Its just how my computer will say that the new chipset from intel has been installed and then when I restart my computer it say I have to update what I just installed like nothing was ever installed or updated. When I went to check the status of the Intel 530 driver after is "Uninstalled" it was already back on my computer and when I right clicked it gave me the option to uninstall it, again. I do not know why my computer will not update the chipset and BIOS or anything else. My last attempt was to disable both of my drivers so I disabled both of them and downloaded the driver that was in the link you sent me. And then it said it was corrupt or invalid.

I also have a major problem with my display showing shadows. The shadows and blacks are extremely blocky and display no smoothness. When shadows appear they are always very pixelated and blocky to the point where its almost unbearable to even watch. I understand that some displays have black and shadow issues but this is extremely major and sometimes makes me just wanna quit watching videos on my laptop that's how unbearable it is. Here are some screen captures of a video that really shows how bad it can get. No it is not the rendering of the video, it occurs across every single video imaginable. This is also in the resolution of 4K, yes I know its hard to tell with these really terrible screen captures

I do suggest zooming in to really see the severity of this problem

Please confirm if you were able to install latest version 4501.

I know that when you are running Intel(R) graphics and another brand, you need to uninstall both drivers and then install graphics drivers following this procedure:

1. Uninstall Intel and third party graphics drivers

2. Install the Intel graphics driver first, then the second graphics driver controller.

I need the graphics report generated within the graphics control panel, please attach it.

The drivers that I download in the link that you provided come up as corrupt or damaged and there is nothing that I can do to run it because the only option after it is to delete it. This is shown in a previous post where I responded to you. Please fix the problem because I literally can not download and run the driver even if I wanted to. Thank you.

I was able to install the latest version 4501 after following the manual installation, I tried this installation on an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) computer.

Download the zip version and follow the steps to install this manually.

This did not work either. The file downloaded fine. But when I selected the file in the browse menu to manually update the driver, I clicked next, and it just said windows determined your device is up to date. And when I go under driver details it is not 4501. I selected the file that downloaded. Maybe it is because I had to extract the files because the zip folder would not show up when I selected browse to manually update so I extracted the files into a regular folder and it showed up. That step was not in the step by step explanation but the only format of folder that showed up after clocking browse was regular folders.

This might be a problem that your computer manufacturer does not allow the installation of generic graphics drivers.

Please try updating to the latest version provided by your computer maker.

This might be indeed a manufacturer issue. The drivers on dells website are not updated to the 4501 driver, so support for dell products may not be supported yet? And I have already reinstalled the drivers from dell on their website and went through a diagnostic test as well and nothing came up. Would this driver update fix the black levels on my screen because I have been experiencing that ever since I purchased my computer a couple months ago.

The latest graphics driver 4501 still does not contain a fix for the problem of the black bars around the screen. This is still under investigation.

What about the screen flickering? I contacted dell and they said to just turn the screen brightness up and it will stop flickering so they seem to be aware of the problem and dealt with it, but that is not a solution to the problem, I already knew this before hand but if the screen is not at maximum brightness then the screen will flicker.

The brightness should be controlled by the graphics video BIOS. The generic graphics drivers provided by Intel might help on this matter but sometimes will not enable graphics features because they were specifically designed by the computer manufacturer.
