Can't get 82845G chip set to display 1600 x 900 resolution of new HP widescreen monitor

My new 20" monitor works great with my Macbook, but my PC, with an INtel 82845G chipset will only display 1280 x 1024 or 1280 x 600 resolution, not the native 1600 x 900 resolution of my monitor, leaving the graphics stretched out horizontally. I have the latest driver downloaded from the Intel web site and I've loaded the monitor driver using the HP disc gthat came with the monitor. Is there any way to get the Intel graphics chipset to display 1600 x 900 resolution?
