Cannot enable retro scaling in Intel Graphics Software control panel

The "Retro scaling" option in Intel Graphics Software does not work, choosing it results in some flicker and revert to GPU scaling.

Arc Control from older driver package can enable retro scaling without issues.

Hi @dantmnf2,

I just wanted to clarify if the flickering issue is happening on the main screen or the external monitor after updating to version 6653. Could you also let me know the older driver version that did not have an issue with retro scaling? Apart from the driver update, have you checked for any Windows updates or patches for the system?

Looking forward to your response.

To clarify, I am changing the scaling mode of internal display from "GPU Scaling" to "Retro Scaling" in Intel Graphics Software. After I click "Retro Scaling“ option in the popup list, the screen flickered for about one second, then the scaling mode is still "GPU Scaling".

Also with the 6653 driver, using Arc Control from 6130 driver package can enable retro scaling without issues. Intel Graphics Software cannot detect retro scaling status (still reports "GPU Scaling") and any change to scaling mode/method will disable retro scaling.

No older driver versions with Intel Graphics Software tested.

Hi @dantmnf2,

To help isolate the flickering issue with retro scaling, could you please test using an external monitor connected to your system? Let us know if the flickering occurs on the extended display or only on the internal screen.

Additionally, please check for any pending BIOS updates on your system manufacturer's website and ensure all Windows updates are installed. Remember to reboot your system to apply any changes.

Since the issue is occurring with version 6653, it may be driver related. Could you let us know how you performed your last graphics driver update? Did you obtain version 6653 from the Intel Download Center or from your system manufacturer? Did you performed clean installation before updating your graphics driver?

Please note that Intel provides generic versions of software and drivers. Your computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes. If you have an OEM device, contact Computer Manufacturer Support Websites for best driver compatibility with your system.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to your observations.

I didn't get a chance to test on external monitor yet. The driver is obtained from Intel Download Center website, without performing a clean installation.

Hi @dantmnf2,

Thank you for your update. I understand you haven't had the chance to test on an external monitor yet. When you do, please try to follow the recommendations provided in my previous post to ensure optimal performance.

Additionally, I wanted to inform you that we have a new driver version available, 32.0.101.6732, which you can download from the Intel Download Center. I recommend performing a clean installation of previous driver to ensure all settings are reset and to potentially resolve any existing issues.

Please note, we supply generic versions of graphics drivers for general purposes. Computer manufacturers might have changed the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to the graphics driver software or software packaging. To avoid potential installation incompatibilities, we recommend that you check first with your computer manufacturer and use the driver software provided by them

Once you've applied these steps, please test the scaling on your system and let us know how it goes. Your feedback is valuable, and we're looking forward to your response.

Performed a clean installation with 6732 driver, the retro scaling option in Intel Graphics Software does not have any effect now - neither flickering nor scaling behavior change.

Reopening Intel Graphics Software after switching to retro scaling will get two empty option:

Hi @dantmnf2,

I would like to offer remote assistance to help check your system and address the issues you're experiencing. I will be sending you an email shortly to request your callback number so we can discuss this over the phone.

My plan is to personally explore and examine the Intel graphics software on your system using the Quick Assist application that can be downloaded from Microsoft store. This will allow me to identify any settings that may need to be enabled or determine if there is a software glitch that should be reported.

I appreciate your cooperation and look forward to working with you to resolve this issue. Please anticipate an email from me later today or by tomorrow.

Thank you.
