Cant set resolution to true 1440p on lg tv - custom resolution needed

Im experiencing a problem that should be easy to fix but cannot be.

When setting a resolution above 1920x1080 the intel driver will send a 4k signal to the tv, it will upscale the resolution selected to 4k and send 4k signal.

The problem is that I have the bandwidth to send a 1440p 60hz signal, but since the driver will send only a 1440p upscaled to 4k my bandwidth is not enough to send a 60hz signal.

So the situation is that I can chose between true 1080p 120hz and 4k 30hz in varios uspcalings.

Thats really bad because the tv in question supports that resolution up to 120hz and on my nvidia pc I can do it, but with intel driver I cannot.

This things are really important and you should never disable the option of custom resolution from your drivers. If you want to compete with nvidia you need to do better.

I can say the following about the LG G3. The TV offers the PC format 2560 x 1440 with Coordinated Video Timing - Reduced Blanking (CVT-RB) via the HDMI cable. However, it deviates from the standard with a positive vertical sync polarity:

A corresponding signal can easily be set up via HDMI 2.0 TMDS using the Windows display settings:

HDMI 2.0 TMDS reaches its maximum at 600 MHz (18 Gbps).

  • 2560 x 1440 @ 120 Hz RGB 8-bit = 498 MHz (14.94 Gbps)
  • 2560 x 1440 @ 120 Hz RGB 10-bit = 624 MHz (18.72 Gbps)

The here tested Iris Xe from 2021 (Tiger Lake) therefore uses 8-bit with dithering when HDR is active. That's fine.
