I assume you mean DX58SO. If so, this is your board: http://ark.intel.com/products/36888/Intel-Desktop-Board-DX58SO Intel® Desktop Board DX58SO Specifications
You will note that it is eight years old and no longer supported.
I also assume you mean i7-940. If so, this is your processor:
http://ark.intel.com/products/37148/Intel-Core-i7-940-Processor-8M-Cache-2_93-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI Intel® Core™ i7-940 Processor (8M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI) Specifications
It is also eight years old and no longer supported.
This is the tech spec on your board: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/18128/eng/DX58SO_TechProdSpec.pdf https://downloadmirror.intel.com/18128/eng/DX58SO_TechProdSpec.pdf
Note that in section 1.1.1, table 1 on page 10, the board only supports PCIe x16 2.0.
This means that any card currently manufactured will have to support PCIe x16 2.0, or be backward compatible with PCIe 2.0. There have been many posts recently from users who are attempting to use current graphics cards and are finding that the backwards compatibility is hit or miss; mostly miss. So, if you try a current card, you may or may not be successful.
You may want to explore a slightly older card that was made (then) to support PCIe 2.0. Still, that is at your risk.

Hello tekoa_wa,
Thank you for the recommendations, Al , I do support the fact that you can get some "bottleneck" or performance decrease while using current GPUs with this system.
Using a PCIe 3.0 in a 2.0 slot can work, but it will have the 2.0 speeds, which can affect performance, as Al mentioned above.
Getting a PCIe 2.0 graphics card seems like a good option for you to get the best possible performance out of the system.
Please note compatibility (software/drivers) can be a tricky situation whilst older hardware is used.
