Core i3-1005G1 HDMI 2560x1440 resolution

Hi,

I have a Lenovo V15-IIL laptop with Core i3-1005G1 processor. Monitor is Lenovo Q27q-1L its native resolution is 2560x1440 at 75Hz

When I connect the monitor a higher than 1080p resolution is not listed on Intel graphics center or Windows. Output signal is only 1080p. I dont have option for 75Hz. It goes up to 60Hz only.

Found a similar thread with no resolution.

https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/2560x1080-for-LG-34-quot-UltraWide-over-HDMI-unavailable-on/m-p/722945#M85475

On processor specs I dont see if it supports 75Hz or not, just a maximum resolution at 60Hz (it is much larger). https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/196588/intel-core-i31005g1-processor-4m-cache-up-to-3-40-ghz.html

Monitor specs are here: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/TempFile/cache/13dfff5c-1fc9-4b0c-b204-d790faef5e2e/Lenovo_Q27q-1L_66C1GAC3EU.pdf

Checked that the laptop is on the latest BIOS version. Tried Intel drivers and Lenovo package. The monitor and the same cable works fine on a desktop computer with nvidia graphics card.

Where is the problem? Any suggestions?

Hello @gointern

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to review this further and understand better the environment, could you please provide us with the following information?

1- Just to make sure, What is the Maximum Supported Mode (Resolution + Refresh rate) that you can select? For instance, 1920x1080 at 60Hz, or 1920x1080 at 75Hz (but is 75Hz not available if you try selecting 2560x1440?), etc.

Also, are you able to select 2560x1440 resolution if you select first a lower refresh rate? Could you please provide some screenshots from Intel® Graphics Command Center > Display > General tab showing the different Resolution and Refresh rate options available?

2- Is this a new system? Did this configuration (computer + monitor + cable) work fine before? If this worked fine before at any moment, were there any recent hardware or software changes that might relate to the point when the issue started? (for instance, Windows, driver, BIOS or monitor firmware updates?).

3- Are you using a straight-through connection HDMI-to-HDMI with a single cable to connect the monitor? Or are you using any type of video adapters, converters, or dockings? Please provide details.

4- When clicking on the link to review the monitor's specifications we are getting a "404 Error". Could you please confirm if the below links refer to your specific monitor:

5- In order to achieve the desired configuration, all components involved (hardware and software) must support the necessary requirements. Have you also checked with the computer manufacturer (OEM) Lenovo* to confirm the HDMI port on the laptop can enable the necessary data bandwidth to output 2560x1440 at 75Hz? If yes, could you please provide details?

6- Please provide a Report for Intel® Graphics Drivers following the steps on the link. Make sure the monitor in question is connected to the computer when running the report.

7- Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.
  • Once you have saved the file (.txt file), please attach it to your reply.

To upload and attach a file, use the "Drag and drop here or browse files to attach" option below the response textbox.

Notes:

1- You are correct, the graphics driver and graphics processing unit (GPU) of Intel® Core™ i3-1005G1 Processor can display 4096 x 2304@60Hz over HDMI* 2.0. When bandwidth and system configuration allow it, the GPU will display any resolution equal or lower than the Max Resolution supported by the processor that is also supported by the monitor, for instance, UHD, QHD, 2K, FHD, etc.

2- Higher refresh rates can be achieved but this may require selecting a resolution lower than the Max Resolution Supported (4096 x 2304).

1- I am able to select 1920x1080 60p. Lowest option is 50i which also gives 1920x1080 as highest resolution.

2- new system, new monitor.

3- straight through HDMI cable. No dongles or adapters.

4- that is the correct monitor

5- The only information I was able to find is in the computer specs sheet that it "supports external monitor via HDMI® (up to 4096x2304@24Hz)"

Hello gointern

Thank you for your response and for all the information, it is really appreciated.

Checking the Intel® Graphics report and the screenshots, we noticed that the desired Supported Modes 2560x1440 at 60pHz / 75pHz are listed, so it seems that the Graphics Controller is properly detecting the supported resolutions. Have you tested using only the external display and disabling the built-in display?

Also, have you checked if there are drivers or firmware updates available for your monitor (also known as .inf files)? The monitor's driver (.inf file) supplies configuration information and the operating system (OS) uses the file to implement the plug and play (PnP) features of the monitor and this allows to properly detect the display features.

We found this link from Lenovo* website that you may check Lenovo* Q27q-1L Monitor Driver for Microsoft Windows 10. However, we recommend checking directly with Lenovo* Support to make sure the software for your monitor is properly installed and up to date.

Also, we would like to recommend trying a clean install of the graphics driver in order to discard issues related to previous update processes/installations.

Since the driver or software for your Intel® component might have been changed or replaced by the computer manufacturer (OEM) and OEM drivers are handpicked and include customized features and solutions to platform-specific issues, the usual recommendation is to use the OEM driver as the first option. Please follow these steps:

Step 1 - Check Windows* updates:

  • Click the Windows Start button.
  • Click the search and type "Windows updates" and click on that option.
  • Select Check for Updates and ensure you have the latest Windows* version.

Step 2 - Clean install of the Graphics Driver:

1- Download the latest Lenovo* driver from this link and save the file on the computer: Intel VGA Driver 27.20.100.8729*.

2- Disconnect from the internet to make sure the driver will not be automatically updated by Windows.

3- Right-click the Windows Start button. Select Device Manager.

4- Expand the Display adapters section and look for the Intel Graphics entry in Device Manager (e.g.: Intel® UHD Graphics).

5- Right-click on Intel Graphics and click Uninstall.

6- In the device removal dialog box, check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.

7- Restart the computer after the uninstallation is complete.

8- Open Device Manager once more.

9- Very Important: Expand the Display Adapter section again:

  • If the graphics entry still displays Intel® UHD Graphics or similar, repeat steps 5-7.
  • If the graphics entry displays Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, run the previously downloaded Lenovo* file to install the driver.

10- Reboot the computer when prompted.

If the issue persists, you can repeat the process (Step 2) using the latest Intel® generic driver (.exe file) for testing purposes. You can download the driver from this link: Intel® Graphics DCH Driver Version 30.0.100.9864.

If the behavior persists, we would also recommend checking with Lenovo* Support if this could be related to a hardware limitation from the laptop.

Please feel free to share details about the outcome of the steps.

Hello gointern

We have not heard back from you so we will proceed to close this thread now. If the issue persists and considering that you mentioned the monitor and the same cable works on another desktop computer, we recommend checking this further with the laptop manufacturer if the desired resolution + refresh rate is supported through the HDMI port on the laptop. For your convenience, here is the link to Lenovo* Support.

If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.
