Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered

Hi. I know this question has been asked many times, but many are unanswered. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Window 7 64 bit. Just yesterday, my laptop kept blacking out, freezes and then unfreeze and this message would pop up saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It keeps happening around every 15-30 minutes. Sometimes, it totally blacks out. Other times, it unfreeze but the windows are blank. Someone please help me. The display adapter I have is Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Some people said online to update it and that might fix the problem. I went to the Intel website and updated the lastest one given, but the problem is still here. I've restored my laptop to a certain restore point, but still did not solve the problem. Suggestions and ideas? Thank you a head of time.

Hi mixie,

Can you please provide the driver version # you currently have installed?

Thanks,

-Nic

To anyone and everyone who comes to this thread after 03JUN13. Install the latest driver provided by Intel® from our Downloadcenter (link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx Intel Download Center)

If the issue still persists, please download the latest VGA/display/graphics driver provided by the OEM of your system (or OEM of your motherboard).

Thank you,

-Nic

Well now

I have a Gateway and I too am having this same problem, something like, nvlddmkm display driver has stopped responding.

I have been thinking it is a problem with the nvidia GEForce 9800m GTS video card but it seems there is always new drivers for the card coming out and I have been updating them constantly with no success.thinking the problem is resolved.for a while, then,it seems to always come back.

I do`nt know how to insert report into this response so I will try to PM it over to You.

Hi,

I use DELL inspiron 1440, windows 7 home premium. For the past one week, while watching videos online, it stops suddenly and shows the notification : "Display driver has stopped responding and recovered". I tried installing the latest driver from Intel website, but the problem persists. will DM my dxdiag to u.

regards,

sristan

Thanks for the info folks.

@sriram: Try using the driver provided by your OEM instead of the Intel® generic driver. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-14 Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] Use the Chipset Intel® Driver there and let me know if you see any improvements.

@Martin Draper: This issue is with your video card and it's driver. You'll need to contact either Gateway or Nvidia for support.

@rigzin: Try updating both your chipset driver and your video driver with ones provided by your OEM. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-1470 Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] Use the Chipset Intel® driver, as well as the Video Intel® driver. Let me know if you see any improvements.

Thanks everyone,

OK

I have been in the nvidia forums for a while and the folks over there know about the problem, but,it seems they are not able to write into an update a cure or a fix.

They have a very lenghthy set of instruction for a fix,I took a long time going through it all and it was to no avail,I`ll keep trying different things and hope a cure is found.

OH YEAH

there was another set of instructions about renaming a set of drivers to "OLD" so that it would see only the one set instead of a duplicate so I went in and worked through that, still no success.

Then

I did the dreaded complete system restore and that helped for a little while but then in a couple of weeks it came back.

This is suppose to be a high end gaming machine, but,it does`nt work.

It was suggested that maby it was a conflict betwwen the processor/motherboard and the nvidia graphics card and that Gateway did`nt fully research the components before releasing the finished product onto the market.

I thank You for doing all the research into these problems.

Can you verify that your display driver is still the proper version? Or did it get updated automatically to a different one?

Thanks,

Hi nic,

I actually downloaded from the link you sent me. It did not get automatically updated. Thanks.

To check what driver version you're currently running you can do the following;

1. Right click desktop and select "Graphics Properties"

2. Select the "Options and Support" tab on the left.

3. Choose the sub-menu for "Information Center"

4. Look next to "Driver Version" to see what version of the driver you're using.

Thanks,

-Nic

When specifically does your issue occur? Does it consistently occur the same way?

Hi nic,

It all started two weeks back, all of a sudden, while watching youtube videos. Then I tried solving myself and then joined this forum. While watching videos online, this problem occurs. What should I do?

thanks,

There's one other driver (previous version) located on the Dell website. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-14?driverId=R237653&fileId=2731109335&osCode=ww1 http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-14?driverId=R237653&fileId=2731109335&osCode=ww1

Try that out, see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise, due to the nature of the origin of your issue, it sounds like it might be hardware related - and you'll have to take that up with Dell*. The driver I linked is supposed to be the previous version.. but it appears to have been launched 4 months after the newest one though.

Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks,

-Nic
