Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered

Hi. I know this question has been asked many times, but many are unanswered. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Window 7 64 bit. Just yesterday, my laptop kept blacking out, freezes and then unfreeze and this message would pop up saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It keeps happening around every 15-30 minutes. Sometimes, it totally blacks out. Other times, it unfreeze but the windows are blank. Someone please help me. The display adapter I have is Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Some people said online to update it and that might fix the problem. I went to the Intel website and updated the lastest one given, but the problem is still here. I've restored my laptop to a certain restore point, but still did not solve the problem. Suggestions and ideas? Thank you a head of time.

@Paige: Try this driver, let me know how it goes; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22167&lang=eng Download Center

@KengFai: If you are still unable to open the download link above, you can either try loading the website in an alternate browser (Chrome* or FireFox*), or you can manually locate the driver. Go to downloadcenter.intel.com -> Graphics, Laptop Graphics Drivers, Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family -> download driver version (.exe) .2869. Let me know if you're still having issues with it.

@vinod: Try this driver, let me know how it goes; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22167&lang=eng Download Center

@recklosh: Try this driver; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22167&lang=eng Download Center

@Paige: Go to the following link, and download/install the latest BIOS available for your system (Version 218). http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K50IJ/# support_Download_30 ASUS - K50IJ Additionally, try using the ASUS* driver provided for your system (VGA -> Version V8.15.10.2021) - it may work better with your system since it is directly from your OEM. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

-Nic

Hi Nic,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I am getting this error when attempting to install the driver.

An error occurred while registering one or more components. Setup will exit.

Any other suggestions?

I would suggest doing a complete uninstall of your current display driver, and then following the have disk method. You can read about it here; http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033915.htm Graphics — How to update graphics driver for Microsoft Windows 7*

Thanks,

-Nic

Thanks Nic,

I managed to install the driver but now it won't get past the welcome screen, getting a lot of black artifacts onscreen and then it reboots. I am typing this in safe mode. Is there anything else I can try?

@vinod: I would be happy to provide some assistance to this issue. Can you create a new thread for this issue as it is not related to the "Display Driver has stopped responding and has reecovered" message issue? Thank you.

@Saurabh: Try this driver; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22165&lang=eng Download Center

@Paige: Can you provide an updated copy of your dxdiag please?

Thanks,

Dear Nic,

I am deeply troubled that I too am suffering the same afflictions that have griped my poor Dell Inspiron E1505.. The Display Driver has failed and has recovered but this happens often. I've been suffering also from the dreaded BSOD which I'm concerned might be an affiliated symptom of this affliction. Please help me Obi-Wan...

if u have verified your drivers are correct and all the setting are optimal then it could be even the heat problem or insufficient power to the display adapter. have u tried recording the temperature of the adapter. try using a cooling pad to fend off the heat. .also try different setting from the in game option menu

hope it helps

@Jennifer: You're currently using our latest drivers for your system, however when I checked your OEM to see if they had an alternate version you could try, I found that they do not support your system with Windows* 7... Vista & XP is what your system can handle. I would recommend contacting your OEM and seeing if they have an alternate solution for you.

@Paige: At this point, you've updated your drivers with both Intel® as well as Asus* versions. Your BIOS has been updated, and you don't have an add-on graphics card that would be causing issues either... It might not be a bad idea to re-install your operating system. However, unlike operating system re-installs in the past, Windows* 7 is a relatively quick installation (takes about 20 mins after its launched).

@djt7000: You have an NVidia* card.. I would recommend contacting them for support.

@Kareem: Can you provide a copy of your DxDiag please? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information). Thanks.

@topedge: Try this driver; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22167&lang=eng Download Center

Thanks all,

-Nic

@Paige: In order to further assist you in re-installing your operating system, I would like to recommend a service I use on my own system at home. It's called ninite.com (there are other alternatives to this website out there, but this is the only one I've tried out). Just checkbox the applications you want installed (make sure you select Java* by default) and choose the "download installer" button on the bottom of the page. It will provide an individual installer file that will install all the applications for you.

Again, this is my own personal recommendation based off my personal experience working with it.

EDIT: You will still need to install your system drivers though. Those should have been provided by your OEM on a CD (or as part of your OS install CD) - as well as our latest graphics drivers, those aren't included when you use the above service.

Thanks,

-Nic
