Hi. I know this question has been asked many times, but many are unanswered. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Window 7 64 bit. Just yesterday, my laptop kept blacking out, freezes and then unfreeze and this message would pop up saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It keeps happening around every 15-30 minutes. Sometimes, it totally blacks out. Other times, it unfreeze but the windows are blank. Someone please help me. The display adapter I have is Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Some people said online to update it and that might fix the problem. I went to the Intel website and updated the lastest one given, but the problem is still here. I've restored my laptop to a certain restore point, but still did not solve the problem. Suggestions and ideas? Thank you a head of time.

Hi nic,
Everytime I play tf2 which is a steam game the display driver constantly crashes so I have to exit the game and open it up again. It also happens when I play the game and have another tab open like a word document or google. Could you tell me how to fix it pls? asap

@PickMeh: I would suggest trying out your OEM drivers. Here's a link to your systems support page; http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/xps-l702x Product Support for XPS 17 (L702x) | Dell US
Install the latest Intel® Graphics Driver, and possibly the latest drivers for your other add-on card. Let me know if there's any difference afterwards.
@Michael: Thanks for the info. According to the DxDiag, your system does not recognize the Intel® Graphics driver. You should contact your OEM and verify whether you have a switchable-graphics supported system or not. You can also try uninstalling the drivers for your add-on card, and see if the game functions properly just using the onboard graphics.

@erinrehm: What is the full make/model number of your system? Do you just have the on-board graphics, or is there an add-on card as well?
@Bryan Lee: It looks like you have the wrong driver installed. It's displaying your graphics controller as "HD Graphics Family" when it should be "HD Graphics 3000". Thanks for the help Nic, sadly it seems to be a hardware problem. Did a fresh W7 install and problem was still there, had a talk with Dell's support center and they're going to replace my gfx card

Nic, you seem to be the go to man with these problems. I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150 64-bit Windows 7. While playing The Sims 3, my screen goes black and flashes. If I minimize the game then I just get the message about the driver crashing. If I do not minimize the game then it just freezes. This only started happening a few days ago and I have no clue why. @Michael Hasworth: The issue you are experiencing with FireFox* is supposed to be resolved by Mozilla* if it has not already. Make sure your browser is fully updated. Are you also experiencing the driver crash message, or just the FireFox* issue?

yes, Firefox is up to date. What happens is the display driver keeps resetting (blank screen, desktop, blank screen etc..) about 10 times then computer freezes & must be turned off. If other programs trigger this, the same type of crash happens. No error message given by Firefox, but it simply doesn't load the page.

I went to that page but the Intel Graphic Drivers were out of date, I installed them anyway and the problem persists. I believe my hardware is malfunctioning because when the screen goes white or green before blacking out shaking the laptop will sometimes stop it. Was I supposed to download a different driver? It seems to happen the most in the middle of a video or a few seconds after opening a game. EDIT: Also it now seems to reset my PC without me doing anything. Could Windows be the problem? EDIT 2: Windows just showed a blue screen and has fully crashed. Please Help!

@Michael Hasworth: Your motherboard manufacturer has recently released a new BIOS update (last month) that is supposed to improve functionality of newer CPU's (which your CPU would be categorized as). Download the version 1902 BIOS update and see if that resolves your issue.
@Reuben-Molina: By your description, where physical interaction with the display resolves in a restored picture, that most definitely sounds hardware related. As are your random-restarts. You should contact your OEM for support on your system. The driver page I pointed you at was the latest released by your OEM, because I wanted to make sure that you were not on a system that required an OEM driver (sometimes OEM systems are unable to use our drivers due to how the OEM customized/configured them).
