Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered

Hi. I know this question has been asked many times, but many are unanswered. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Window 7 64 bit. Just yesterday, my laptop kept blacking out, freezes and then unfreeze and this message would pop up saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It keeps happening around every 15-30 minutes. Sometimes, it totally blacks out. Other times, it unfreeze but the windows are blank. Someone please help me. The display adapter I have is Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Some people said online to update it and that might fix the problem. I went to the Intel website and updated the lastest one given, but the problem is still here. I've restored my laptop to a certain restore point, but still did not solve the problem. Suggestions and ideas? Thank you a head of time.

@katsafrica: Try this driver; http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22167&lang=eng Download Center

@Carl: Can you post your dxdiag again for me please? I want to verify if there are any other pieces of software that might need an update.

@kavisajas: It doesn't appear that you have the latest driver according to your dxdiag. Here's the link for it, let me know if there are any problems during installation - and if you're still having trouble, repost your dxdiag after the driver install so I can look again; http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22167&lang=eng Download Center

@kurnia: Do the graphics look like that when the game is freshly started? Or does it only appear like that after you alt + tab in/out of the game?

@Carl: Can you check the .NET status on your system as well? The steps are below;

1. Open Control Panel

2. Open Programs and Features

3. Choose Turn Windows features on or off from the left tab

4. Hit Yes if UAC prompts you for permission

5. Find the folder Microsoft.NET Framework %Version Number% (Note the version number!)

6. Ensure that the checkbox is bubbled (checked is fine too, so long as it's not blank)

Let me know two things;

1. Was the checkbox empty?

2. What was the version # of .NET?

Also, according to your dxdiag - it isn't reporting that it has had a BIOS upgrade.. did the one from before fail? To check do the following: Start -> Run -> MSInfo32 -> Note "Bios Date/Version" listed in the System Information window.

If it did fail (version other than 1.44, or BIOS date other than 14MAR13), here's the download link to try again; http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83uj26us.exe http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83uj26us.exe Let me know how it goes.

@vinoo187: Please post a copy of your dxdiag so I can take a look (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information)

@kavisajas: Sounds like the folder or a file within the folder is in use. Close all your other programs and try to rename the folder. If that doesn't work, reboot the system and try to rename the folder first thing. IF the folder you are trying to rename is NOT a system folder (something critical the running operation of your computer), you can try renaming it within Safe Mode. I would try copying & pasting the folder in question, and renaming the recreated folder personally.

Thanks all,

-Nic

EDIT: Not sure why the spacing between paragraphs stopped working...

Hi Jan,

I would say having a system black out and auto-restart isn't exactly the same problem everyone else is having... but go ahead and try this driver for your system and see if the issue is resolved; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22521&lang=eng Download Center

Let me know how it goes,

That's fine, just make sure that you update your BIOS to the latest released version. It's important since you are running a 3rd gen processor on a 2nd gen board.

Hi Nic,

I've had the same problem as just about everyone else here. I continually get the message, "Display driver intel graphics accelerator drivers for windows xp(r) has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" when my computer freezes after playing media, especially youtube videos. Sometimes my computer will freeze and recover without the error message. this has been going on for a long time now, and I was told to completely wipe my hard drive and start over. I'm really hoping I won't have to resort to that! do you think you can help me?

I have an ASUS Notebook K40IJ/K50IJ Series, windows 7 64-bit.

Here's my dxdiag report:

Nic, I can't read the page. It instead display something like this.

Server Error in '/' Application.Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
