Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered

Hi. I know this question has been asked many times, but many are unanswered. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Window 7 64 bit. Just yesterday, my laptop kept blacking out, freezes and then unfreeze and this message would pop up saying, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It keeps happening around every 15-30 minutes. Sometimes, it totally blacks out. Other times, it unfreeze but the windows are blank. Someone please help me. The display adapter I have is Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Some people said online to update it and that might fix the problem. I went to the Intel website and updated the lastest one given, but the problem is still here. I've restored my laptop to a certain restore point, but still did not solve the problem. Suggestions and ideas? Thank you a head of time.

Hi vinod,

You'll need to communicate with your OEM (Gigabyte*) for assistance with that particular issue.

Thanks,

-Nic

@Steve: Your onboard graphics are not showing up in the dxdiag - only the NVidia* cards are (of which it shows 2, but it sounds like thats in error). You will need to contact your OEM and see if you have a system which supports switchable graphics or not (SG means you have both processor & add-on graphics, and it utilizes both simultaneously). More info this subject can be found here; http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-031103.htm Graphics — Switchable Graphics feature FAQ

@kurnia: You were using the GMA 3150 graphics controller with driver version; 8.14.0010.2117 The latest driver for the GMA 3150 that we have is here; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19494&lang=eng Download Center

@Craig: Try this driver; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22521&lang=eng Download Center

@tronik: no problem -.^b

@kavisajas: We no longer have those drivers posted in the download center. However, you can get the driver you need by using the Intel® Driver Update utility.

Thanks everyone,

-Nic

Hi nic,

My display driver stops working randomly whenever I've tried to play my Sims 3 game. I don't think it's because my computer isn't compatible with Sims 3. I have no clue what's going on and it's really frustrating! Since you've been asking for it here is my DxDiag report:

@parv0: Actually, I had the wrong driver for you. Your dxdiag reported your device as 1st Gen, not 2nd. So the driver it is attempting to provide for you (3062) is in fact the correct one. However, your system is using our graphics as well as the NVidia* card. The extra card though, is not being reported in DxDiag. That makes me think that the driver is not installed on it, which can potentially cause the error message you are getting. I would recommend installing both of the latest drivers provided by your OEM on the support site here; http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N55SL/# support_Download_30 http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N55SL/# support_Download_30

After installing both the Intel® and NVidia* drivers, let me know if you are still getting the error.

@WildStyleZ: Do you have any other graphics cards installed on this system? Can you verify this error still happens after using the latest validated driver provided by your OEM? Link here (version 2843); http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4150# driver GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-B75M-D3H (rev. 1.0)

@jhgkhg: The driver version it says you have installed is not appropriate for your system, the latest we provide is version 3062, not 3190. Follow the instructions in the Readme.txt that came with your driver installation file to fully uninstall that driver from your system, and then install our latest driver here; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22628&lang=eng Download Center

Hi Nic,

I am having a similar issue while running Windows 7. Every 15 Minutes or so, and also when I try to play games or videos, my computer hangs for a few seconds, then goes black screen. When it comes back on I get the error message on the taskbar. (intel graphics accelerator for windows has stop working and recovered successfully). I need a fix for this because if I am in the middle of a game and this happens, my computer cannot recover the image so I have to close the game. Here is my system info.

Thanks, Spencer.

@WildStyleZ: Can you confirm that you are not also using an NVidia* card in your system simultaneously with ours? I ask because if you are, you will need to update both the Catalyst* driver as well as the NVidia* driver - AND install our latest again (3165).

@TheFleetFox: Try this driver; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20601&ProdId=3675&lang=eng Download Center

@jghkhg: 3062 is in fact an older driver than 3190. Where did you get your copy of 3190 from? The DxDiag is reporting that you have 2 of the same card installed, here is what I would suggest. Completely uninstall your graphics driver, restart your system. Do this until all previous drivers are installed - and you are left with a driver called something along the lines of "Microsoft* Basic Display Adapter", this means you have fully uninstalled to the point where you are at the default graphics driver for your OS. When you get to this point, try again to install 3062, and see if your issue is resolved. Due to the multiple appearances of your display adapter in DxDiag, I believe there might be some driver files installed that are interfering with currently running drivers. Make sure when you do the Uninstall option (from Device Manager -> Right click Display Adapter -> Uninstall -> Delete all associated files with the driver (checkbox)).

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Thanks,

-Nic
