Does Intel HD 530 support 1440p at 144 Hz?

Hello,

I have purchased a refurbished Dell Optiplex 7050 with a sixth generation Intel Core i7-6700T processor, which has an Intel HD 530 graphic processor.

On the spec page at https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/88200/intel-core-i76700t-processor-8m-cache-up-to-3-60-ghz.html, only the max resolution is shown, that is 4096x2304@60Hz (through the display port, only 24Hz through HDMI), but no mention is made if Intel HD 530 is able to produce a higher refresh rate at lower resolution.

Would I bee able to use a QHD monitor that operates at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 @ 144Hz?

Some more research seems to indicate that indeed Intel HD 530 supports 2560 x 1440 @ 144Hz. In particular, one can refer to this post and this other one in this forum.

Considering the current great popularity of monitors capable of 2560 x 1440 @ 144Hz, with many available under $200, it's hard to understand why Intel makes this information so hard to get, which results in an enormous confusion, with articles like this one on GPU Republic mistakenly claiming that  the whole family of Intel Integrated Graphics processors is unable to achieve a refresh rate of 144 Hz:  "the maximum refresh rate that an Intel integrated graphics card can support is 60Hz through HDMI and DisplayPort. You can connect an onboard Intel GPU with a 144Hz monitor, but the refresh rate will be locked at 60Hz. The latest Intel Iris Xe chipset is capable of supporting maximum resolution up to 4096 x 2304 at 60Hz through HDMI and 7680 x 4320 at 60Hz through DisplayPort."

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

The Dell Optiplex 7050 has an HDMI 1.4 port which has a maximum bandwidth of 10.2Gbps, and a 2560x1440 @144Hz resolution requires 15.93 Gbps, therefore, it should not be able to support that resolution and refresh rate. 

I was able to find out that the Dell Optiplex 7050 (Tower) has DisplayPort 1.2, which supports 21.6 Gbps, and you should be able to get that resolution to work, unless there is a hardware limitation implemented by Dell.

Have you tried setting up the resolution with no success?

Hi Steven,

Sorry for the late reply. It took me a while to find some time to set-up the PC and the monitor, but when I did it and connected them via the DisplayPort it was super easy to go into the Advanced Display Settings of Windows 10 and set the resolution to 2560 x 1440 @ 144 Hz.
