Flickering black with double monitor extended desktop.

Hi, i've a problem with flickering black with double monitor extended desktop on the external one. It comes when i set up 1920x1080 on the first monitor and 1920x1200 on the second monitor. My configuration: Notebook Deviltech Hellfire (MSI GE70 barebone), Intel 3610QM Geforce GT650M with 2GB of ddr5 ram, 16 GB (2x8) dual channel ram at 1600Mhz, Samsung 830 256GB, external monitor dell u2412m, OS windows 8.1 updated. All drivers are updated. Some other information: the external monitor is connected with vga cable. with the same vga cable i tried with my netbook and no problem. If i set 1920x1080 on the second monitor there is no problem and there is no problem also if i duplicate the desktop or I use only the external monitor. I uninstalled and reinstalled all graphic card drivers (hd 4000 and gt650m) without any changes.

update 1: on linux there's no problem.

update 2: there's no new bios available compatible with 8.1 released by msi.

On the notebook monitor 60Hz. On the external monitor i've tried both 59Hz and 60Hz.

In both cases, flickering.

I would recommend you only install the graphics http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70_0NC.html# down-driver&Win8 64 drivers provided by MSI as they have been validated for your system. This is critical for a Hybrid Graphics system such as yours. Be sure to uninstall a existing driver and then install the Intel HD Graphics driver first, reboot, and then install the NVidia drivers.

I tried with MSI drivers when I formatted all and reinstalled windows 7, without profit. After I installed the lastest version, without profit. Now I tried again with the msi driver, also without profit.

Still here with the problem, need help

Have you tried using a HDMI to DP connection to the display? Also, have you tried the Auto Adjust feature in the display to optimize the displays setting for the connected PC?

Auto adjust isn't available in dvi-d mode i think.

I am at a loss here. I cannot replicate the issue you are seeing. I have the same display however I do not have the MSI system you have. Have you contacted MSI support to see if they have information on the issue?

I am having this exact same issue. Brand new MSI notebook (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152814 full specs) with Intel Core i7-5700HQ 2.70 GHz CPU and Intel HM87 chipset.

Here's the problem I'm having:

• No issues with built-in display when there is no external display connected.
• When an external display is connected (I'm using HDMI) everything is fine for about 60 seconds. After that, the external display is fine, but the built-in display start flickering.
• The flickering lasts about 10 seconds and then the built-in display goes all black (still back-lit though). The external display remains on as normal.
• While the screen is mid-flicker, if you unplug the external display, the flickering on the built-in display stops and seems to be fine.
• This happens regardless of whether the laptop is on battery or AC power.

I found https://mrgnome.wordpress.com/2009/06/12/external-monitor-flicker-laptop-ground-loop-problem-solved/ this blog post that I thought might be relevant to the problem, and I tried using an un-grounded power adapter (as suggested) but that did not solve the problem.

I solved too turning back to windows 7 where a more recent (then i previously had) compatible version of the bios was released by msi.

Then i flash the last bios.No flickering anymore.
