Force Iris Xe on second monitor instead of Nvidia GPU

Hello,

When I connect my laptop to a second monitor (via HDMI), it automatically uses the Nvidia GPU for the display. The problem is I would like to use only the Iris Xe Graphics because I actually use the RTX4080 on heavy comptutations in parallel and it seems to be causing bugs. I can't find how to set the external monitor to use the Iris Xe as well, if it is at all possible?

Many thanks

I assume that the HDMI port on your device is connected directly to the Nvidia graphics card as in the example below. In such a case, you have to accept the hardware as it is and cannot choose the display engine that controls the video output.

Hi Tamas2

Thank you for reaching out about your concern with your laptop's GPU usage when connecting to a second monitor. I understand that you'd prefer to use the Iris Xe Graphics for your external display while keeping the RTX 4080 dedicated to heavy computations.

Please generate an SSU report to help me further analyze important details on your system. To generate the SSU report, please refer to the article: How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*. Please send us the generated SSU.txt file.

Please answer the Following Questions:

  •  Are you using any specific software or drivers that manage GPU settings, like Nvidia Control Panel or Intel Graphics Command Center?
  •  Have you tried configuring the display settings in Windows, such as setting the Iris Xe Graphics as the default for certain applications or displays?
  • Have you tried adjusting the graphics settings in the BIOS or UEFI to set a preferred GPU for display output?

We look forward for your Response!

Best Regards,

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.

I have now tried the following :

- Nvidia Control Panel doesn't let me untick the monitor in the options, and redirects me to Windows settings

- Intel Graphics Command Center doesn't let me configure the external monitor as it is already driven by Nvidia card, it redirects me to Windows settings

- Windows settings doesn't let me choose which card I want to use for any monitor (or I can't find the menu at least).

- I went in BIOS but couldn't find anywhere mention of an external monitor for which I could choose the graphics card to use.

So it seems I can only plug the monitor and it will run with the GPU of its choice without me having a word in it?

Here are some screenshots, first is Nvidia Control Panel and second the Intel one.
