Dear community, dear Intel support,
2 Month ago, I decided to buy myself a tablet computer, simply because I wanted to use the new Microsoft Windows 8. I've found one with an Intel n2600 processor, a processor that was release about one year ago. Because it was shipped with Windows 7, I personally checked, and I got the information that all my system components would be compatible, from the official Microsoft website. When The computer then arrived, I installed the support assistant, which reconfirmed the Information I've already known: The Intel N2600 Processor with the GMA 3600 Chipset is fully compatible with Windows 8
The trouble came after the Installation: The problem wasn't even that the Driver wouldn't be working well, but the Graphicsdevice wasn't even recognizes! Long story short: There is NO WAY for me to get that device running, even though it't a very new device and I was told it was going to work.
No I know, it's a chipset that is built in a lot of computers, even in some very new ones. Because of that, I'm by far not the only one with this problem: There are a lot discussions going on right now, concerning the same problem. But maybe, it still isn't enough that Intel finally realizes that they need to follow the needs of their customer: The only thing we can do right now is to ask Intel to provide that Driver, over and over again that they will figure out that this really is a serious thing, and that it's concerning a lot more people than they actually might think.
By the way, here is a petition I've found: It's not me who created it, but I believe with things like that we can show how may we are, so please, take a moment and sign this petition: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gma600/ Windows 8 support for Intel Atom Tablets
I hope you can all support me, and who knows, maybe Intel could do something about that?
Sincerely,
Imer

Hi, have you tried to use the 89 for windows 8? 83 works, but still no metro and slow performance.
Best

Hi!
I've just tried to install 8.14.8.1089 under the Windows 8, but it still doesn't work with Metro apps, and the Rating has fallen from 3.2 with 8.14.8.1083 to 3.0 with 8.14.8.1089.
So, it doesn't really solve any problem as I can see.
I still hope Intel will release good drivers at least for Win 7.

I am sorry to say that after reverting back to Win 7, this is the last Intel machine I will purchase unless it is an Apple.

Sorry. After re-install windows 7 I have to say, that even 8.14.8.1083 causes problems in windows 7 too!
In former times I only used this machine as a media player - without problems.
Now I wanted to try some old games from gog.com (Sacred i.e.) - and directX crashes on this machine!
So @Intel: sorry for bying your board!
Wiht regred and so on...

If you are going to forward a thread, how about this one?

We should have had some consideration months ago when the issue was first raised, so people could be properly warned of the problems upgrading to Windows 8. This issue is exacerbated when the Microsoft Windows 8 upgrade utility itself makes no warning as to the non-availability of graphics drivers required, and proceeds to recommend the upgrade.
I find this to be a huge problem for general users to be honest, something needs to be done.

Dear Mr Fred,
I'm really thankful that you could forward this thread, it means a lot to me, and I hope it will help us to finally get the driver: I must say, I believe Intel ignores his community far too often, so I hope that they will realize their mistake and take the appropriate action to fix it. We all are still waiting for that driver...
Sincerely,
Imer96

It would have been better a driver for Windows 8, and no one updated for Widnows 7 (
8.0.3.0.1089).

GMA3600 METRO APPS WORKING PARTIALLY FIXED
Hi,
I partially solved the problem of METRO apps win 8 on GMA 3600
if you install stardock modernmix
http://www.stardock.com/products/modernmix/ http://www.stardock.com/products/modernmix/
and pokki start menu,
http://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu http://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu
it is possible use metro apps in desktop environment, this make possible use metro apps.
I do not know why ??? but is metro apps running in window desktop are useful, instead runned in metro start you experienced BSOD,
METRO WIN 8 APPS do work very well in desktop windows GMA3600 system
it is probably the only way to enjoy metro exp in win 8, unfortunately modernmix is not freeware
I am using my modded driver , but you can try also the intel latest 1091 driver
cheers

try windows no full screen.
Store is not working ( again BSOD) ,but you can install apps trough Pokki,
use pokki icons to start them,
in alternative you can install apps under win 8 basic driver then come back to
latest driver and resolution to run it with modern mix
by the way I found a similar freeware ( not tested yet)
modernstart 2
google it

Well Thanks a lot, this is a very helpful comment, I'll have to try that as soon as I get some time. Actually, Intel marked this thread as "answered", even though it clearly isn't. I tried to change it, couldn't find out how though..

Hi there, eager beaver. It may interest you to know that the generic Windows 8 graphics driver is a highly accelerated, crashproof, gma3600 and gma500 graphics driver. It even does the performance evaluation and cruises the included free apps with no problem. I have informal benchmarks that I use for comparing graphics performance between versions of Windows and Linux, and the Microsoft driver is definitely accelerated. Only catch is that it uses 4:3 resolution only, which ought to make a lot of people outside the US happy.
As for Linux, recent 3 series kernels have built in support for the 3600, and, often with the poulsbo.ko driver disabled, you get a /dev/fb0 and /dev/dri that lets you do even mesa acceleration using the humble fbdev_drv.so graphics driver.

Well, I'm sorry to say, but I need to disagree with you. Because I can't live with the crashes, I decided to install the standard Microsoft driver as well. Actually, it's working just fine, but the performance is awful. If I try to watch a YouTube video in HD it lags really badly, scrolling isn't smooth, and almost all the apps you download from the store react very slowly and are mostly unusable, not because they don't work, but because they lag too much. So pretty much, all I'm able to do with it now, is working with Word, anything that would even only need a little bit of graphical support works, but like I said, mostly isn't usable at all.
So this is my experience with the standard driver, I guess we are using the same one. can you play videos in HD without lags with this driver?
thx,
imer

Notice that this tablet has Atom N2600 and GMA 3600, so what is the problem Intel? You can do a new driver but you dont want it. http://www.tinydeal.com/es/bben-97-ips-screen-windows-8-intel-dual-core-32gb-tablet-pc-p-77333.html?dp=M0100 $379.95 - (BBEN) C97A 9.7" IPS Screen Windows 8 Tablet PC w/ Camera WiFi (CPU Intel Atom N2600 Dual-core 1.6GHz SSD 32GB) L-141629 - TinyDeal

Intel sucks .. gma3600 doesn't work on windows 8 and intel knows it but apparently intel are now employing ostriches who think that if they bury their heads in the sand all problems will go away .. they also think their customers are useless schmucks who they can rob in broad daylight!

Once again we are just poor buyers of ati/nvidia/intel graphic devices .
But instead of upgrading drivers like ati/nvidia, intel is just looking for money, more and more buyers and not support.
It's a shame to say "We do not plan to ... blah blah blah "
Hey guys ! Don't say that stupid things and EXPLAIN US CLEARLY WHY ?????
It's probably a little driver to code for you !!
And what about letting the source code free for developpers and make an alternative driver ? NO ?
The less I'm selling Intel devices, the more I feel better !
