I am using a laptop and it is not connected to any external display but it often goes to a black screen and sometimes a black screen on startup.

If i press F5 i can switch back to primary display.

The display adadpters listed in Device Manager are -

Intel HD Graphics 4000

Nvidia Geforce GT 650M

Hello, ds123:

I would like to gather some information in order to address this matter, so please download the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Download Intel® System Support Utility, and attach it, with this report I will be able to confirm some of that information.

Regards,

Amy.

With Regards to your suggestions -

  • Update the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M driver - I need to use the older drivers for a specific game to work correctly.
  • Update the Intel® HD Graphics driver - I am using new drivers already.
  • Try resting your BIOS configuration to default - The BIOS is the newest version.

Only occasionally does it switch now, and i can press F5 to switch back displays.

According to your system report, you have .2653 version and the latest from our end is the .4425(https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25977/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-33-?product=81499 Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.33]). For testing purposes, can you try installing a different version of the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M driver? By setting your BIOS to default I meant loading the default configuration, normally is done by pressing F9 once you have entered the BIOS.

Amy.

As i said earlier No new drivers will install, and i tried the latest Nvidia Driver and i get the 'Installation Failed' message.

I also reset BIOS configuration.

I got the latest Intel Driver installed using above method.

I will see how it goes though i did not mention as well as overheating i had a loose LCD cable which i though might have been the problem before.

Display still goes black every so often, i updated the driver so am thinking it is a hardware problem (LCD panel to logic board).

It is a possibility, is there any chance you can test with a different LCD panel?

Amy.

If it was the panel, would it not just switch off completely? I took it to a repair shop and they said the cable was loose but it is doing it again.

Well yeah, it could be possible.

Does this "I am using a laptop and it is not connected to any external display but it often goes to a black screen and sometimes a black screen on startup. If i press F5 i can switch back to primary display." persist?

Amy.

Yes, yesterday screen was goind black every 5 seconds and starting again as i type, i have sent for a new LCD. If it still happens must be the data cable from motherboard.

I believe this could be hardware issue, so if you get the new LCD let me know how it goes.

Amy.
