I am unable to find or open the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel

Hi all,

I have a Dell Optiplex 990 desktop machine. It is running Windows 7 Enterprise, and it has Intel HD 2000 integrated graphics. The video output ports on the machine include 1 DisplayPort and 1 VGA port.

I have been battling to get dual displays to work on the machine. When I plug one monitor into the DisplayPort, and another into the VGA port, my computer does not recognize that 2 displays are connected.

After getting online, I noticed a lot of documentation telling me to find the "Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel". Unfortunately, this control panel doesn't seem to exist. It is not in any right-click menu, nor is it in the start menu, nor is it in the list of programs installed on the computer.

I decided to install the latest driver from Intel to see if it would change anything, so I installed the driver found here:

Download Center

Unfortunately, it changed nothing. I still have no "Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel". So, Windows doesn't recognize 2 displays (and thus I cannot change my displays via the normal Windows method), and I don't have the special Intel program to be able to do so either.

Is there anywhere I can find the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel? Is there anything I can do to get it installed? Or do you have any other suggestions for me?

I know dual monitors are supported, as it says so in the documentation here:

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-031040.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-031040.htm

So it can't be a problem of whether it is supported or not.

What can I do?

Thanks for any help,

David

It looks like it butchered my link to the driver. This is it:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22628&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20Enterprise%2C%2064-bit%20version*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

And if the link doesn't work still, here is the info on it:

It is the Intel® HD graphics Driver for Windows 7* 64

Version: 15.28.15.64.3062

Date: 03/21/2013

Hello thelikhan,

Based on your description, I recommend you doing the following:

  1. Uninstall the driver you have from Device manager or From Programs and Features.
  2. Download the generic driver from our side at:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22628&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20%2864-bit%29*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

  1. Install the monitor drivers.

By doing these steps, the software should be installed in your computer. It can be accessed by right clicking the Desktop> Graphics Properties.

Note that the driver we have is a generic driver. This is because we provide the hardware to the system manufacturer and they will design and create the drivers specifically for their systems. In the case that the driver is not working properly, I recommend downloading the driver from Dell Site at the following link:

kevin_intel:

I attempted to try your steps, but unfortunately I was not successful. The drivers on Dell's website did not change anything.

Here are some additional clues that may help in discovering the cause of this issue:

Whenever I try to change the display settings in Windows, if I click on Advance Settings, on most computers it will tell you information about your video adapter (for example, on another PC that I have, it tells me that I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300). On this computer however (the Dell Optiplex 990 which I am having issues with), it says "n/a", "unknown", or "unavailable" for every single field in the "Advanced Settings" window. Unknown adapter type, unknown chip. Then when I click "Properties", the "driver" is called VgaSave from an unknown manufacturer.

Here is a screenshot:

In addition, I have started a thread on Dell's forums to go along with this thread:

Any additional help would be much appreciated!
