Am looking to finally upgrade my older ICH6R system with one most likely to be an ICH10R (X58 chipset). When mirroring on the older ICH6R, I utilized "raid specific timing" SATA drives and have had no problems with them. However, since the standard drive got to 500GB, the "RAID" versions have disappeared and other terms have appeared to be in the same area (A/V, enterprise class, etc.). My question is: Does a standard desktop board with the X58 chipset utilizing Raid 0, 1, or 10 with the Intel Matrix Storage Manager running Windows7 require a specific type or timing of a SATA drive. I have seen various comments throughout the web with opinions varying from you have to use the smaller obsolete "Raid" certified drives, to "Dont use the raid drives because the stricter timing leads to more timeout failures" I've done some research on the intel site, and have yet to find a definitive answer to this question.
