I just set up a new Raid 1 array with two WD15EARS. After a few hours of use one of the disks went missing. Everything was plugged in fine, and rebooting resolved the issue.
I would like to split these drives so that I can retreive the SMART data. Is there an easy way to do this? I thought it would be pretty straightforward with mirroring.
Any other troubleshooting suggestions?
Thanks

My Asus P5Q has a secondary SATA controller. Since I couldn't figure out how to unlink the drives without killing the RAID volume, I simply switched the new drive to the separate controller. The drive passes SMART fine.
Now I'm having a separate problem: After upgrading from IMSM to Intel Rapid Storage Technology, the system hangs. CPU usage goes very high, and the computer is almost entirely nonresponsive.
