INTEL Graphics Drivers are the problem

I've read posts here blaming custom builders and recommending warranty repair for what is clearly a driver problem.

I've also read about newer drivers reverting back to older drivers, screens going black, resolution changing by itself etc. etc. etc.

It is clear to me that INTEL has a driver problem

A stock copy of Windows 11 24H2 without the latest INTEL driver does not exhibit the many problems I get with Graphics drivers directly from INTEL or the older INTEL driver directly from ASUS

The older ASUS driver causes the screen to black out for several seconds, then return for a second or two and black out again repeatedly

It also changes the video display size automagically when watching Youtube videos which crops the video and makes them unwatchable

It also displays red blocks of noise in the lower portion of the Virtualbox screen when loading a VM

It also displays moving waves of grain like dirt blowing in the wind at times.

OK, that was the ASUS / INTEL driver v32.0.101.6314

The newer INTEL version direct from INTEL caused a few freezes requiring a reboot and sometimes reverts back to an older driver for some reason

I am running the ASUS ROG STRIX B860-I gaming wifi motherboard with an INTEL Core Ultra 7 265 (NON-K) with 64GB of Crucial CUDIMM memory

"I do not overclock anything" and am testing several versions of Windows on the Box using several SATA SSD's, each with fresh copies of Windows on them

Even a stock copy of Windows 8.1 works flawlessly (but Graphically slow) without any newer driver from INTEL. No weird blackouts / red blotches / freezes or waves of grain

In fact, there are no Windows 8.1 drivers anywhere for that Intel/motherboard combo, yet everything works (on the motherboard) except wifi / ethernet and Bluetooth

I use a long SATA + power cable running out the back of the case to swap Operating Systems and test everything quickly

The problem is NOT the hardware

It is NOT from overclocking

It is NOT a bad Windows setup

It is a driver problem

PLEASE get this fixed!

For some strange reason, GTA5 plays fine with the newest Intel driver (so far)

Running smooth @ 1080P and looking good on Internal Graphics

That.....I Like!

Thanks

it’s obvious you know your stuff and have put in a ton of effort testing everything out. The issues you said, like the screen flickering, weird resolution changes, VirtualBox glitches, and the driver rolling back, definitely line up with what others have been running into with recent driver versions. The way you tested across different versions of Windows and multiple setups gives us super valuable insight, and yeah, it totally backs up your point that this isn’t a hardware problem, but something going on at the driver level. Also, interesting note about GTA V running fine, that actually tells us the issue isn’t across the board, but probably depends on how certain apps are using the graphics system. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to fully uninstall the existing Intel graphics drivers. This will remove any conflicting files and registry entries that might be causing the issues. After using DDU, reinstall the latest Intel Graphics driver from the official Intel website or through Intel’s Driver & Support Assistant. It appears that drivers provided by ASUS are causing additional problems, so it’s better to rely on the official Intel drivers rather than third-party or OEM-specific versions. Sometimes, the driver may automatically revert to a previous version. To prevent this, you can disable automatic driver updates:

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Right-click on your Intel graphics device and select Properties.

  3. Under the Driver tab, check if there's an option to prevent rollback or make changes in Windows Update settings.

Alternatively, use Group Policy Editor (for Windows Pro versions):

  • Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.

  • Enable Do not include drivers with Windows Updates

...hope it helps.
