I have Windows 8 and Intel HD 4000 graphics. The driver version is 9.17.10.2867. When I try to play a game in full screen it freezes my whole computer. Does anyone else have this problem? And is there a way to fix it?

Passed one month. PC worked fine, but yesterday when playing Dirt 3 - again freeze (monitor off) I'm raised the core speed up to 1250 and see what happens next. It is a pity that you can not give a concrete answer, what could be the problem ...

And one more question. Does the frequency of HD4000 for video encoding rate for the use of technology Quick Sync? This is very important for me.

Thanks!

[P.S.]Sorry for the poor knowledge of English.

So, Intel guys, are you going to fix this issue? I have these frezees in fullscreen mode with Half-Life 2 and Airspace (software that comes with Leap Motion controller). In window mode Half-Life 2 works fine. I didn't try to run any other fullscreen 3d application.

Here is my DxDiag output:

I installed driver ver. 8.15.10.2761 and now everything works for me. Why there are no older versions of drivers on your website?

Hi stepik777,

What is the make/model of your system and/or motherboard? I would recommend doing a BIOS update to the latest and see if it resolves your issue, since your BIOS are over a year old.

Thanks,

My motherboard is ASUS P8Z77-V LX. I updated BIOS to latest version (Version 2203). Then I uninstalled Intel HD driver from Control Panel/Programs and Features. Then I tried to install latest version of this driver (Win64_152815.exe), but it says "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" and refuses to install it. Previously (before BIOS update) I installed this version without any errors. So, for now, I installed older version (Win7_64_152612.exe) and it works fine.

The driver you're referencing (Win64_152815.exe) is for HD 3000/2000, you need to get the driver for HD 4000/2500 which is here; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng Download Center

Yes, you are right, I was trying to install wrong driver. With driver from your link everything works fine including applications that previously froze.

I want to try that driver too and see if it works for me as it worked for stepik777, but if I click your link I see a "Page Not Found, We are sorry, there is no Intel.com page matching your request. The page may have been renamed, moved..." page.

Can you repost the link for me?

Some info about my system configuration:

Mother: Asrock H61M-DGS

BIOS: 1.60 (Updated yesterday), mother was purchased with 1.50

RAM: 4GB 1333 MHz

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 (Intel HD4000)

SO: Windows 7 64 bits SP1 and probably updated to date

Intel Graphics Driver: Lastest found on web site for HD4000

BIOS customized settings: Defaults except for memory bus speed. BIOS set them to 1066 by default, but I was sure my module was 1333, then I set it manually to 1333, all other values by SPD.

Ran memtest86 from Linux Ubuntu Live CD and not errors found.

Temperatures measured by BIOS hardware monitor, about 40 doing nothing (It's that ok for this CPU?). I tried to measure temps during a game session to see how they evolve and I cannot really say that temps are the cause. I used Speedfan for this.

System is stable except for gaming. Tested games should run ok with this system as it is. Minecraft, Counter Strike, Battlefield 2, Mirror Edge (don't sure about compatibility of this one, I'm testing my luck with it). Need for Speed World (Its online).

All games freeze the system. Shutdown from power button is required. Tried to identify the cause I tested various things, peripherals, power supply, disconnect optical drives (who knows).

Minecraft allows me to play for a while, freezes are random. Battlefield 2 freezes at start of a game, when the minimap is shown, I don't have enough time to click the "Play/continue" button as the system freezes there.

Maybe I should test with the BIOS settings suggested in previous posts but I want to test with the driver first (safer).

Update:

I tried various settings in BIOS. iGPU Voltage Offset to +100mv, GT OverClocking, 1150 and 1250. These changed nothing for me. The only thing that seems to improve the duration of a game session before the freeze is limit video memory to 512 Mega Bytes. All other settings back to defaults.

Intel Video driver back to 9.18.10.3257, that is the version that Windows Update offers as optional update. I uninstalled current driver, restart, and ran Windows Update manually. It was the oldest driver I could find, I wanted version 8.XX.XX.XXXX as other user in this thread tried that and It seems to work for him but I could not find that version anywhere. This driver fixes the intermittent artifacts in Battlefield 2 (if you look carefully with the newest driver, in the ground of nearly all maps, you will see something that looks like shadows but aren't shadows. Also they do not appear in all camera angles). But this driver does not solve the freeze while gaming problem.

Another thing I just noticed is that if I play games without my USB WiFi adapter the game session durations is so long that I don't remember experience any system freeze. It needs more testing but if I can play various hours without the WiFi adapter I will buy a PCI-Express WiFi card and stop using my current one. I will set the video memory back to Auto and retry my games but with no WiFi adapter present. Any ideas? Is It a case of faulty USB device or something wrong with my motherboard? Will a future BIOS update from Asrock really fix this or It is totally unrelated to BIOS?

The interesting thing with these system freeze is that no event is logged in Windows Event Viewer except for the "Kernel Power" Event (system was shutdown in an abnormal way) but that is because I need to use the power button whenever this happens. Also no memory dumps in the minidump folder. No Blue Screens. My system is configured to "No auto restart" in Recovery Options in Advanced Settings in System dialog.

Update:

The problem is that remove the USB WiFi Adapter seems to work only for Battlefield 2, the PC still freezes if I play Minecraft for a while. I will try with Video Memory to 512 again.

Update:

I don't know why the game session duration improves if I unplug the WiFi adapter but It seems not the cause after all. As the system freezes on Minecraft the same without WiFi. Maybe If I play Battlefield 2 enough the freezes will occur sooner or later. So back to look at the HD 4000 or its drivers. I located a 8.XX searching the site (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22520&lang=eng&wapkw=intel+hd+8 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22520&lang=eng&wapkw=intel+hd+8.) but It doesn't install ("System does not meet minimum requirements" message is shown), maybe this processor is too new for that driver.

Another interesting observation: Using the latest driver found in Asrock web site in the downloads section for this motherboard the graphics performance playing Minecraft is sensibly better than with any of other tried drivers. I decided to try Asrock downloads and see if something changes and the first thing I noticed is that now I can put the parameter "chunck distance" (controls how far away you can see) to a number higher than 10 and the graphics still render very softly, with any of the other drivers I tried this game graphics feels very lagged and I had to configure "chunck distance" to a value below 10 to get a playable speed. But with any driver the freezes still occur sooner or later.

I'm still using video memory to Auto, maybe I should try put it in 512 again as it improved stability last time.

Update 2014-JAN-16: I found an installer of the 8.x version. For my motherboard specifically. The one offered in download section in VGA driver is a 9.X but if you continue down the page, you get to ASRock Extreme Tuning Utility that requires at least a minimum certain version of Intel Management Engine driver and Intel VGA driver. Well, the link for the Intel VGA driver provided in the description of Extreme Utility there installs an 8.XX version, specifically driver version 15.26.1.64.2618 (8.15.10.2618). I don't sure how many hours I tested but about 4 probably, changing from Minecraft to Battlefield 2. No system freezes until now. Performance in Battlefield 2 is unaffected (100 FPS), but artifacts on ground came back. Performance on Minecraft sensibly worse, about 20 FPS (improves if I lower the settings in special chunk distance), I'm using high settings on purpose to see If I trigger a freeze. Minecraft is not the most efficient of games so lets accept this as OK. I miss the performance of 9.x drivers but I need to get rid of the freezes. I will test for some days and write again. I hope a future BIOS update from Asrock or drivers from Intel fix this problem so I can go back to an updated driver. Update 2014-JAN-17: Another freeze playing minecraft. Even the 8.X drivers don't work for me. I will try to RMA the motherboard. As a BIOS update usually solves this, technically the problem is in the motherboard side. But In my case Asrock is taking its time with the update. I don't want to use dedicated graphics, I'm happy with Intel IGPUs from the times of the GMAs and I always took the risk of try some game in them with more than satisfactory results.

I will advice you to buy a NEW VIDEO CARD... and your OS should be Windows 8.1.. I had experienced that problem before, my solution i bought a new video card and change my OS from windows 7 to Windows 8.1.. and update also your motherboard bios to latest version

Hello,

I´m using i7-3770K with Intel HD 4000, but every time I try to play, the graphic card crash.

I have test the graphic card with FurMark, but when I run, crash, max runs is 10s.

I read that can be voltage, but I already try it to change, but no luck

Can any one makes me understant what is happening here and the solution

I have the last drivers: 10.18.10.4061

Thank you.

Hi all, I solved. Same issue.

Freeze occured instantly while running any gpu stress tester with my HD4000 videocard or any benchmark in a couple of secs.

Same thing if you start a game.

You can fix this way.

Check your MB has the lastest BIOS (in case refer to your manufacturer website).

Download and install Iobit Driver Booster -> http://www.iobit.com/it/driver-booster.php http://www.iobit.com/it/driver-booster.php

*If you can buy it elseway it will take a day.

Launch the program and UPDATE every single driver displayed.

Check with Intel Driver UPDATE UTILITY if YOU OWN the LASTEST intel graphics DRIVERS and UPDATE it TOO INSTALLING THE FULL SUITE.

Troubleshooting:

If you experience a freeze during next reboot dont worry, just power off and power on again your PC

If you experience instead your PC is on the Windows LOGON but mouse and keyboard DO NOT respond, UNPLUG and PLUG back your USB keyboard and mouse cables.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS
