Intel HD 4400 doesn support 2560x1440 resolution with external display

Hi,

I have bought Sony Vaio Pro 13 with intel Graphic HD 4400 card.

Sony has only HDMI 1.4 port to connect external display.

I've tried to connect my Dell U2711 using 1.4 HDMI cable and HDMI-to-DVI-D cable as well.

With both tries I managed to obtain max 1920x1080 resolution.

Whre is an issue?

In display card driver list of all modes maximum resoultion is 1980x1080 with 32bit color so this is driver issue?

I curently use Win64 1.5.319 driver.

Hello szarogesy,

It is important that the Intel ® HD 4400 is capable of reaching higher resolutions than the one you mention when using a straight HDMI connection.

I recommend you using a straight connection with HDMI and no video adapters. Also, installing the monitor drivers is very useful on these issues.

Note that the drivers we provide are generic drivers for the OEM systems. This is because the system manufacturer design and creates the software specifically for their systems. My best recommendation is to contact the system manufacturer (Sony) in the case that reinstalling our driver does not work for you.

I have the same issue with a Sony Vaio Duo 13.

It's a shame that you guys took out the custom resolution setting that we could use to get away with this issue.

Can you tell me how am I supposed to proceed?

I have a straight HDMI connection (1.4), the IIYama monitor driver installed and the latest version of the Intel driver and still only have access to the crappy 1920*1080 resolution...

The Intel HD Graphics 4400 does support 2560x1440 while using a a Display port. It also depends on the resolutions that the monitor supports.

At this point, my best recommendation is to contact the computer manufacturer and confirm with them if your computer supports the resolution desired.

Forget about it. Intel is hopeless. They're not going to make driver for this. I have two laptops with the same problem. The drivers come with the manufacturer not by intel.

Although the sony vaio pro support HDMI 1.4, the driver of the video adapter doesn't support such resolution so suffer the pain.

You need to use the Intel Graphics control panel to manually add the specific resolution. By default using HDMI your computer only calculates the resolution to 1920x1200 at 60 Hz, so you need to create a manual profile. This can only be done via Intel software.

Use this tool http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect Intel® Driver Update Utility to check and update any Intel drivers. I don't believe Sony releases a proprietary driver for you graphics driver beings its an Intel chip. Either way if it does you should still be able to update it with the Intel drivers. Then you need to use the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel to manually add or select the resolution.
