Intel HD 5500 driver win64_15.40.5171 wont install

Currently I have Intel 20.19.15.4703 from 2017 installed.

I have tried 15.40.5171 from .exe and by zip going thru update driver with "have disk" selecting inf. file, Windows just sits there saying its installing the driver then times out.

I put in microsoft display adapter driver and tried updating that way, same thing, times out.

I tried uninstalling the intel display adapter and installing .5171 it wont install.

I had to use system restore to get 20.19.4703 back in. Acer is not using proprietary Intel drivers, the driver on Acer site is like 2015 and standard intel dch driver , the laptop has been updated once to 2017 driver some time ago , yet the 2020 driver . 5171 wont install.
