Hello!
I've been having this issue since I've upgrade to windows 10, close to a year ago I believe. I have an HP ENVY m6-n012dx Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR).
When I play any PC game, or sometimes(rarely) when I don't, my display driver will fail. It will recover near immediately though, but I assume this isn't too healthy for my computer if it keeps repeatedly doing this.
I have noticed, when I go into my device manager and check the properties of my Intel HD Graphics 4600 card, this is in the events:
So it says it needs further installation, and I've tried a lot of things to fix it. I assume that once it's installed all the way, the problem will be fixed.
I have already uninstalled it, and tried reinstalling it straight from HP's website. I have also tried installing the base driver for my device off Intel's website. I'm basically at the end of my rope, and I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Hello, ZzRr:
Thank you for contacting the Intel Communities.
I would like you to perform the following steps in order to troubleshoot this.
1. Uninstall your graphics driver.
-Access the device manager (you can use windows start search to find it).
-Look for Display adapters double click on it.
-Right click on your Intel® HD Graphics and hit properties.
-Go to driver tab and hit uninstall.
-Select "Delete the driver software for this device"
2. Install all windows updates
3. Install the driver from HP
Besides that, I would like to gather some information on this to get a better overview of the issue.
A. The Intel® System Support Utility report
B. Which are the games that are starting this issue (please name some of them)
How to get that report?
-Access: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility
-Download the utility
-Scan your system with the utility
-Export the report and attach it to your answer with the advanced editor option
In regards to the screenshot added above, please make sure you have the last of the option from the list selected.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Esteban C

Thank you so much for replying!!!
Just double checking before I do this, is it safe to delete the driver software for this device?
When I've uninstalled before, I've never done that. Mostly out of worry that that's unsafe and would really screw my laptop up.
Also some of the games this happens with are Civilization V, Enter the Gungeon, and Overwatch. I believe it has happened with others before, but I remember it first occurring with Civilization V, and more recently with the others.
Also, here is the new screenshot:

Thank you for the screenshot, it was installed properly.
Removing the driver software on your device has no harm, you can do it and then install the drivers again and it should remain the same.
Please let me know how your system behaves after following the instructions provided previously.

Esteban C

Alright, I uninstaled and deleted the files. I reinstalled on HP's website and also with windows update.
I feel like that could be a problem? Since HP might be installing a slightly different driver than Windows Update would? Not sure though.
I also attached the file that the utility made too!
I'll update you if I have any problems with it within the next day or so!

I was playing Overwatch today, and it the display driver crashed yet again. It's only happened once so far but that means it's still a problem.

I am sorry to hear that ZzRr, I saw that you are using 10.18.15.4248 graphics driver, you can test the behavior of your system with the generic drivers from Intel, added below.
Generic graphics driver: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25951/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-?product=81496 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25951/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-?product=81496
If you have issues installing the driver, you can try this method with the .zip file: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html
Hope you can get this fixed with this driver, please let me know how it goes.

Esteban C

When I tried to install that driver, this came up:
Should I manually install with the zip file now? I don't really know how to do that, nor do I know if it's safe after seeing this message, so I'll wait for your take on it.

Hello, ZzRr:
This message appears when you have an OEM system, meaning that it was desiged, and integrated by a brand or manufacturer, they can limit the software that is installed in their systems (in this case the generic drivers from Intel), at this point, you can try the manual installation, that won't harm your device, you have the option to remove those drivers and go back to the drivers provided by the OEM for that reason it won't harm your system.
Please let me know how it goes.

So I installed this driver manually: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25951/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen- Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 [15.40][4th Gen]
But ended up with a driver version 20.19.15.4424
I even ran through the process twice, and for some reason it changes to that version instead of the 15.40.
I will run it for awhile and get back to you if I have any problems though. Is there anything else I should do as of right now?

Alright, awesome then!
It seems to be running well(so far), but is it safe to just keep this driver version installed?
I mean, it seems like my HP Envy has a slightly customized version of it, and shouldn't I have that one installed, if anything?
Yeah, it is giving me problems, but still just want to double check. Basically, is it safe to keep using this one even though there might be one my computer manufacturer deems better for my PC?

Hello, ZzRr:
Other than not having special setting related to graphics would be the only thing missing while using the Intel generic drivers (4424) in an OEM system.
As advised by Stefan3D, only the last 4 digits are the ones that matter.
Please do let us know if the problem is present with this generic driver to further assist you.
I will be closing this up by setting one of the answers as "Correctc Answer", hope you don't mind.

This question is not resolved, as the driver still crashes for me.
I haven't been home for several days, so I haven't been able to test it very much. It seems like sometime it slows down, but doesn't crash and a game's graphics will hiccup.
But I just got a message mid Overwatch game that it crashed on me.

I am truly sorry to hear that ZzRr, but lets keep troubleshooting this.
Actually, we have recently released a driver (15.40.25.4463), if you have the chance to use it, and provide us with some feedback, it would be great.
Here the download page: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26079/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-?product=81496 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26079/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-?product=81496
Hope this works for your.

I just realized that I think it was having errors because the driver updated itself back to the 10.xxxxxx version, which was the problem originally.
Is there any way to not have it do that? I figure it might be a windows update thing?

Thank you both so much for helping me!!!
