Hello,
I got a new Asus Windows 10 64-bit laptop that has both Intel HD graphics 530 and nVidia GeForce GTX 960m dedicated graphics. When browsing the web, especially while using Google Images, my computer freezes up for a second, unfreezes, and I get a notifcation saying the Intel HD graphics driver crashed and recovered itself. This happens multiple times per day and there are no driver updates yet from the Asus website as this is a new model of laptop.
I've also had a couple of blue screens due to "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR" that I believe is related, as it freezes up while browsing the web much like the driver crashes, but then it goes to a black screen for a couple of seconds and then the blue screen.

The problem is as I mentioned above. The computer industry is not engineering laptops; they just piece part together. Specifications engineered for a system are thrown out the window in favor of performance numbers or even worse, cost. Neither suppliers nor integrators do the due diligence engineering required to ensure a robust system is sold to the consumer. Add to that the truly horrible way updates are handled, leaving it to the consumers to find problems. Why is it this way, versus robust systems engineering? Because everyone wanted cheap, and wanted to keep replacing to keep up with tech. So this is what you get. I am pissed as I would rather pay 4 grand and have a reliable system than 2 grand and have it fail 25 times a day. But this is where the market has brought us. All my years of engineering, systems integration, supply chain, quality etc experience do not matter one iota anymore. So what is the solution? # 1 hardware and software standardization across industry like aerospace had to do. Cut out the individual glory of incompatability and start treating computers like infrastructure. Because they are now. # 2 Intel take responsibility for selling the wrong part to manufacturers without looking into how it would be integrated. Major supplier quality failure. # 3 consumers contact their manufacturers and make it clear that they expect robust testing, not just of functional requirements, but a full test suite looking for system impacts and risks. Yeah, we will have to take increased cost but I am sick and tired of the drain on my productivity from poor engineering. Cost of Poor Quality should not be MY expense, it needs to become the manufacturers. # 4 Be prepared to request new laptops should Intel be unable to fix this and not tolerate being blown off by notoriously unaccountable, unhelpful, and defensive manufacturers.

Your "desktop" MSI 27 6QE.is in fact a laptop because It is build with mobile parts. For example you have a laptop video card gtx 980M because it has an M at the end.

Here you are wrong, how can a laptop have 2x video cards on one video output ? They need some hardware/software customization. Just putting pieces together is not enough for a device to work. But if you think that this is how it works, I am not gonna comment anymore.

I am the latest victim to the faulty Intel HD Graphics 530 driver. I just spent a bomb on a PC with fast specs but end up having a PC which cannot even do basic things like displaying without flickering. I am bookmarking this thread to await for the final solution from Intel that works. Very disappointed with Intel. It is incredible that Intel cannot even get drivers working for a major product given the huge resources at its disposal. Intel staff responsible for this problem needs to do some deep self-reflection.

I have also an i7 6700k, I have some problems with the driver, but not flickering issues ...
What is your system configuration?
If you don't receive any error like Graphic driver stopped respoding and was recovered, in the flickering problem there are more factors involved, like mainboard and memory.
Some people noticed that by disabling XMP and setting memory on auto, the flickering dissapeard. This issue is more specific to the mainboard, and how is setting the voltages. Try set memory on auto and check if flickering is still happening.

Thanks for the reply. I am using i7 6700 with a MSI B150m bazooka motherboard running on Windows 10 pro. I know it is a driver problem for sure because the flickering problem disappeared after I switched to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". However, this is not a solution because I cannot play games anymore. Besides flickering, I have a strange problem with Microsoft Edge browser. There are random black and white stripes appearing on the web pages when using Edge browser. Does not happen on chrome. Again, these strange problems disappeared after switching to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter".

And I suppose you use latest video driver 4404.
All I can tell you is to wait for the next driver release, I think it will have some big modifications.

I installed the latest video driver 4444. The same problem happens. I realize even my past solution of using "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" does not work but at least, the screen does not flicker. A new problem is happening. The screen keeps going black for a few seconds, then come back. It is impossible to work with Intel i7-6700.
This thread was started in early Dec2015. As of today, half a year has passed and the drivers are still not fixed. I cannot help but wonder if Intel is dropping this part of the market? I believe it is a fair statement to say half a year is more than enough time to fix drivers problem in a major product launch (Intel skylake i7)

Hi teachme
Have you done any voltage/frequency modification to the CPU or memory ? If you didn't then your mainboard is setting a wrong voltage.
You need to increase PCH +1.0V voltage with .05 steps till you see that is not going black anymore.

I am not knowledgeable to touch those settings. What I changed was to allocate the maximum amount of shared memory to the video card. I dare not touch stuff like voltage or frequency.

Hello, I too am having the same problem as others with my Intel HD graphics 530 drivers. Below is my story:
I purchased a new MSI GS40 6QE Phantom notebook in March of 2016. It's running a Windows 10 64-bit OS and Intel's i7-6700HQ CPU with both the Intel HD graphics 530 and nVidia GeForce GTX 970m dedicated graphics. When browsing the web, watching an online video or watching a downloaded video, the PC will randomly freeze with a black screen and speaker buzzing. The only way to recover is by powering down the system and rebooting.
I've done the following to no avail:
- Reinstalled the OS 3 times.
- Updated BIOS to the latest MSI release
- Updated the Intel HD Graphics drivers to the latest MSI releases: 4404, 4312
- Updated the Intel HD Graphics drivers using the following driver releases: 4444, 4424, 4404, 4380, 4326, 4300, 4279
It's not a permanent solution, but the only thing that keeps my system from crashing at this point has been to use the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver. It works this way, but with screen flickering when scrolling a web page or mousing over web page graphics.
I paid $1600 for this notebook and have been dealing with this issue right out of the box since its purchase.

So sorry to hear that you are the latest victim to poor engineering (coming from no less than Intel). I upgraded to the latest BIOS as advised by Ronin. The problems reported did not disappear but they seem to happen less frequently so far.
I hope Intel will do something soon as this problem has been festering since last year. It is really taking too much time to fix a fundamental bug of an expensive product line. I am using i7-7600 skylake. Screen flickering and black screen appearing randomly can render the system unusable. It is such a waste of time updating drivers, upgrading BIOS and still not get the problem fixed. It gives a new meaning to "Intel Inside".
Can someone tell me how to be notified when new HD530 graphics drivers appear? I am almost checking for new drivers every day.

I did some testing on my computer and it seems that when PCH +1.0V is undervolted it gives that black screen flickering. Can you please install HWiNFO64 and go to sensors and check that voltage ?

Thanks for the tip. I cannot see this voltage on HWInfo but I can see that I can set this PCH voltage on the BIOS. I just set it to 1.1V. Is this a safe value? Is it too high?

The normal value is 1.0V and you can try slowly increase it by .010V steps. You can test with 1.1 at first and see if this helps, and if you see it's fixed then decrease it slowly. It might be possible that your mainboard is not giving enough voltage or current in that point.

HI Ronin,
After setting to PCH 1.1V, I still see the black screen occasionally. I have set it back to Auto. Just wondering. Why should PCH affect the graphics card? PCH would affect SATA, USB but why should it affect the integrated graphics which is inside the CPU?

CPUs still contain some kind of north bridge which is inside. That is counted as PCH also. North bridge wasn't completely eliminated from the CPU, it's just that on skylake you have access to its voltage also.
If you set voltage to 1.1V and it's still flashing black screens then it maybe something else.
On what port is your monitor conected, DVI or HDMI ?

The CPU doesn't connect directly to monitor. It uses a controller which is on mainboard. Not all monitors/TVs are detected correctly on HDMI.
If you have the option to connect monitor on DVI port I would suggest to test on DVI. If it's working correctly on DVI then it maybe some compatibility problem and the DVI controller doesn't detect correctly your monitor.
You can also try to connect a TV on HDMI. If on TV is not doing the same problem then for sure is a compatibility problem.
