Hello,
I have a Dell Precision 5560 with Intel Iris Xe Graphics. The version of the driver is the latest - 31.0.101.4502. OS is Windows 10. I am using an external Dell true 8-bit monitor.
I have a few questions about your temporal dithering techniques. I am sensitive to that and my eyes hurt.
I am aware you do not provide an option to disable this functionality.
Questions:
1. Could you clarify if there are specific conditions under which temporal dithering is disabled? I'm wondering if it's related to factors like the display's EDID, monitor bit depth, cable bandwidth, or something else.
2. Is there a place where I can suggest a new feature for the Intel Graphics Command Center - an option to disable temporal dithering?
For the first question I suppose somebody from the engineering team would be knowledgeable on the topic.
Thanks a lot for your time.

Hello Firemaker,
Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I understand you want information related to Dithering on Intel® Integrated Graphics.
In this case, as you mentioned, this option cannot be disabled since this feature can be controlled and modified by the laptop manufacturer (Dell, HP, Acer. MSI, etc.) I recommend you to get in contact with Dell to confirm how they manage this feature and you can also share your feedback with them so they can have it under consideration for future products.
Bear in mind that Intel provide these features to these manufacturer and they can modified based on their product specifications.
Please keep in mind that this thread will no longer be monitored by Intel.

Hey Deivid,
Thank you for your answer.
My first question was mostly related to the driver of the video card which is written by Intel. There might be scenarios where driver disables it and you won't be able to enable it because the hardware does not support it. I feel this could be answered by somebody that is familiar with the driver.
I do not see an answer to my second question. Intel manufactures the video card, develops the driver and also develops the Intel Graphics Command Center software. What's stopping Intel from developing such a feature into Intel Graphics Command Center itself? And where could we suggest this feature to be added?
Deivid, this is an issue that has been reported many times. There is an open-source library that tries to disable dithering for your video cards - here. There was another older library that had the same purpose - here. You can see this is really a problem. It doesn't affect a large amount of people but it does affect some people.
I have another portion of questions related to developing a third-party tool that disables dithering. Is there a public documentation on how can we interact with the driver and the dithering settings? Is it possible for an outside developer like me to make such a tool and open-source it with some guidance from Intel about the driver APIs, good practices, etc?
Thank you. Hopefully you'll be able to answer even though the thread isn't monitored by Intel anymore.
Best Regards.

Hi,
I have the same questions as Firemaker.
I have a new laptop from lenovo with Iris Xe and i am not able to use the laptop due to very quick onset of eye strain (either when I use the laptop screen or external monitors that are flicker free).
I contacted lenovo and tried to learn something to no avail, they claim they are not controlling the dithering nor can they help me determine how to disable it.
Your previous intel UHD 620 card has not cause any issues to me - used it daily for 4 years for 7-8 hours a day. Whenever i switch back to it from Iris Xe all my issues go away instantly.
Any guidance would be appreciated as people who are sensitive like myself are being slowly prevented from being able to use any new technology and I find it insane that I can use any older piece of hardware without any issues at all but can't buy a new laptop with intel based processor anymore without an impact on my health.
Thank you.

Hello Firemaker,
Thanks for your patience. To continue with the investigation, I will need the following information to know more about your system and environment.
1. Provide the details on both the system and the Dell monitor.
A) Dell PC
- Brand and model name.
- The service tag
- Did you perform any upgrades to the PC or hardware changes?
B) Dell monitor
- Brand and model name.
- service tag (if exists)
- If the Dell 8-bit monitor is an external monitor connected to the system
- What type of connection are you using (e.g. DisplayPort, HDMI, etc.)?
- Is it a direct connection or is it going through anything like a docking station/dongle/converter, etc.?
2. Can you please try and provide us with a zoomed-in video trying to visually show us the issue?
3. Are you able to get this issue to occur on a different monitor or does it only occur on the Dell monitor?
4. Provide the log files from the Intel® Graphics Command Center.
GZunit, you can check/follow the information provided on this thread. However, you can open a new thread to get support on your inquiry as well.
Regards,
Deivid A.

Hello Deivid A. ,
Please do not close the thread. Currently, there are holidays and I will get back to you next week.
Also, with all my respect, you are very persistently avoiding my questions. I have asked numerous questions without an answer.
Happy holidays.
Best Regards.

Hello Deivid,
Apologies for late reply.
Answers to your questions:
1. Provide the details on both the system and the Dell monitor.
- Dell Precision 5560. Service tag: DHLV5M3. No upgrades or hardware changes.
- DELL S2340lc via HDMI. The same effect is obvserved via dongle or a docking station.
2. Can you please try and provide us with a zoomed-in video trying to visually show us the issue?
There's nothing visual. I do not see any visual difference.
3. Are you able to get this issue to occur on a different monitor or does it only occur on the Dell monitor?
It occurs on all monitors that I have tried. Including the laptop display.
4. Provide the log files from the Intel® Graphics Command Center.
All of these logs seem to not have any valuable information. I am attaching a .txt file with the logs.
Also, here is a list of my questions to you.
1. Are there scenarios where your driver disables dithering? An example of that is when you have an external 6 bit monitor via DisplayPort as confirmed by your colleague here.
2. How could we suggest a new feature for disabling dithering to be added into Intel Graphics Command Center?
3. Is there a public documentation on how can we interact with the driver and the dithering settings? Is it possible for an outside developer like me to make such a tool and open-source it with some guidance from Intel about the driver APIs, good practices, etc?
Thank you for your patience.
Best regards.
