Hi qwerty1234,
Thank you for posting in the community, to further assist you on this matter I have some questions. Please answer the following questions below:
- What is the name of the game? Where did you download it?
- Can you share the game settings for me?
- Is your charger plug in when playing? As this will help your system provide better performance compare to relaying on battery.
- Can you tell me what graphic driver version you have?
- Have you tried updating to the latest driver? have you used Display Driver Uninstaller to perform clean installation of graphics driver?
This will greatly assist me in providing better resolution on this matter.
Best regards,
Dhanniel M.

The game is final fantasy xv windows edition. From the downloaded from my steam library of games. It happens with almost all the games first the tdp reaches upto 20W-30W and then drops to 13-15W watts after sometime. The game settings were all on low and custom preset and TRAM(Texture RAM) setting to high. the cpu package temp does not even reach 90-92C where it should be considered high temp.Yes, i did plug the charger on the laptop. the laptop model is HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV)(HP 15s-fq5xxx on settings app). I have latest graphic driver of intel iris xe. Yes, i have performed the clean install of graphic driver from the generic intel graphics driver installer. What should i do now.

Hi qwerty1234,
I understand your current situation. Since you are using a laptop, I can only provide general troubleshooting for this issue. If the problem persists, I advise you to contact HP support for further assistance.
Could you let me know if this issue started recently or if it has been ongoing since you bought the laptop? It is possible that your system cannot keep up with the games you are playing, causing the temperature to rise and the system to throttle itself to prevent overheating.
Additionally, we can try rolling back to the graphics driver recommended by your laptop manufacturer. Please perform a Clean Installation of Intel® Graphics Drivers. Note that you must disconnect your laptop from the Internet before uninstalling the graphics driver to prevent it from automatically reinstalling. Therefore, please download the graphics driver first before disconnecting from the Internet. Please follow this link for your laptop graphics driver: https://support.hp.com/nz-en/drivers/swdetails/hp-15.6-inch-laptop-pc-15-d5000/2101006255/swItemId/ob-336745-1

Now i have installed latest generic intel iris xe graphics driver from intel.com and it seems to perform somewhat better. The TDP now stays at about 17-20W. but my cpu package temps are still 72-75°C. the bump in tdp starts to go to 30-35W but later drops to near 17-20W range. I cannot maintain the high TDP at about 30W and cpu package temps hover around 89°C.Will thermal throttling occur at this temprature. If not then how can i Maintain high tdp at around 30W. any ideas what should i do next. I have already tried apps like throttlestop and they do not seem to help in this situation by raising PL1 to 35W and also by raising turbo power boost time limit.

Hi qwerty1234,
I am glad to hear that your game performance has improved. Regarding your CPU temperature, at 89°C, the system may not always throttle. If you wish to increase your system's TDP, it is best to contact your laptop manufacturer to determine if your laptop's cooling system can support the desired TDP. Maintaining a TDP beyond the manufacturer's recommendation might cause issues with your laptop. Let me know if you have other inquiries that I can assist you with.
