Intel(R) HD family graphics card won't detect external monitor via HDMI (Sony vaio flip 15 to bush television), how can I fix this to use dual monitors?

Found the same problem on an old thread (Found the same problem on an old thread (Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 HDMI not detected) but no solution.) but no solution.

Help much appreciated

We suggest following up in the existing thread if it is discussing the same issue. I believe you refer about this one:

You may want to test with a different HDMI display and a high quality straight HDMI cable.
