This issue can occur if you have a non-DCH-based driver installed and the driver update being attempted is (to) a DCH-based driver. The DCH-based driver packages do not have the ability to uninstall or upgrade older, non-DCH driver packages, so this must be done manually. You should use a process like this:

  1. Download the DCH-based driver package and place it on your system drive (anywhere you wish; location isn't important).
  2. Disable Internet access. Unplug Ethernet cable and/or disable Wireless access.
  3. From the Apps / Apps & Features Settings scene, uninstall the non-DCH driver package (look for Intel Graphics Driver entry).
  4. Reboot.
  5. Install the DCH-based driver package that you downloaded in Step 1.
  6. Reboot.
  7. Enable Internet access.
  8. Note: Windows Update may want/need to install updates at this point. You should manually go to the Update & Security / Windows Update Settings scene. If no updates are in progress, click on Check for Updates and, if any are necessary, they will commence. If updates are (now) in progress, wait for them to complete and reboot if this is then requested.
  9. Optionally, you can download and install the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel app from the Microsoft App Store.
  10. Test.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the quick reply. That sounds manageable and I'll give it a try next days. Will report on result.

Sorry to say, but it did not help. Following strictly this sequence it still results in : "Not for this System". However the driver is recommended by the Intel Driver assist.

Now, helpless. Positive: the system still works fine.

Hello HHilf, When performing the steps provided on this thread, check if the 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' is listed under Windows* Device Manager > Video adapters. If not, repeat steps 3-4. If the adapter continues to be listed as ‘Intel HD Graphics’, and no other Intel® Graphics driver is listed under 'Programs and Features' for removal, then try removing Legacy drivers from Device Manager: Right-click on 'Intel HD Graphics' or similar, and select 'Uninstall Device' In the pop-up window make sure 'Delete the driver software for this device' is checked. Click on 'Uninstall'. Reboot. Install the DCH driver. Restart your system. Enable your Internet connection. If possible, try updating Windows* to Windows* 10 build 17763 (RS5). Wanner G. Another thought: do you have another (NVIDIA/AMD) graphics card plugged into your motherboard? This often results in the Intel HD Graphics engine being disabled by default. You may need to change the BIOS configuration so that the Intel HD Graphics engine will remain enabled if another card is detected.

Hi to Scott and WannerG,

first I have to be more precisely: The error message says (translated from german): "The driver just to be installed has not been validated for this computer. Get the appropriate driver from the manufacturer of your computer".

As this is an individual assembled computer on an MSI board this is not possible. However, this driver was recommended by Intels Driver Assist.

And second: There is no other graphics output other than the Intel processor graphics.

...third: The Win 10 is the most actual 1809 build 17763.316

And fourth: The procedure from WannerG to uninstall the driver resulted in a low resolution screen. And after reconnecting to the internet and restarting the system the driver version .6471 was activated again by the system.

Everything is as it was before.

Hello HHilf, We would like to gather more information about your system. Please run the Intel® System Support Utility and attach the report to this thread. 1.Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application to your system. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-?product=91600 2.Open the application and click Scan to see system and device information. The Intel® System Support Utility defaults to the Summary View on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says summary to change to Detailed View. 3.To save your scan, click Next and click Save. You can save the file to any accessible location on your computer. Wanner G. Hi WannerG,

sorry for the delay, but this also doesn't work.

Getting to Apps & Features there is NO entry for the Intel Graphic Driver.

So I deinstalled the old one by going to the Devicemanager and used "deinstall" Intel Graphic.

After restarting Windows (still disconnected) from the Internet there is no entry for the Graphics at the Devicemanager anymore. However, the screen resolution is as normal.

Now installing the the new version I'm getting the same rejection as before.

Hello HHilf, To address this issue, please review this information to see if you are missing some steps: 1. Download the latest DCH driver from downloadcenter.intel.com and save it on your Desktop. 2. Disconnect from the Internet. 3. Uninstall any existing DCH Graphics driver via Start > Settings > Apps & Features. 4. Uninstall the (DCH) Intel® Graphics Control Panel via Start > Settings > Apps & Features. 5. Restart the computer. 6. In Device Manager > Right-click on "Intel® HD Graphics". Note: If "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is already listed skip to step# . 7. Select "Uninstall device". 8. Enable the option "Delete the driver software for this device" and click "Uninstall". 9. Restart the computer. (this should delete any non-DCH driver stored on Windows driver repository. Repeat steps #6 through #9 until "Intel® HD Graphics" changes to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter") 10. Install the DCH driver downloaded in step #1. 11. Restart the computer. 12. Reconnect to the Internet. 13. The (DCH) Intel® Graphics Control Panel should be downloaded automatically after a few minutes upon restart. If it doesn't, go to Microsoft Store and download it. 14. Restart the computer. If the issue persists, we recommend using Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) drivers only. Please follow these steps: 1. Disconnect from the Internet. 2. Uninstall the generic DCH drivers via Start > Settings > Apps & Features. 3. Uninstall the (DCH) Intel® Graphics Control Panel via Start > Settings > Apps & Features. 4. Restart the computer. 5. Reconnect to the Internet. 6. Go to Device Manager > Right-click on "Intel® HD Graphics" or "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". 7. Select "Update Driver". 8. Allow Windows Update to Search for the best drivers for your system. 9. Install the driver. 10. Restart the computer. Wanner G. Intel Customer Support Technician Under Contract to Intel Corporation

Thank you Wanner, it's fixed. 🙂

The crucial point was under 9: "Repeat steps #6 through #9 until "Intel® HD Graphics" changes to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter")"

I had to do this twice! So previously I just wondered why there was nothing indicated as driver. It was just empty. But doing it twice resolved the problem and the new driver works fine.

Thank you again for the excellent support.

Great.
